William A. Grenzow, age 76, of Whitewater, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at home surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
He was born in New Milford, Connecticut on March 6, 1943; the son of William S. and Clara (Diem) Grenzow. Bill was married to Dawn (Wescott) Grenzow on January 27, 1973 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton. Together, they raised their two children, Tara and Tyler. Bill farmed and milked cows in Johnstown and East Troy until 1975. In 1976, the family moved to LaGrange and Bill managed a farm for Dean Kincaid, Inc. for 25 years, until retirement.
Bill was member of the Walworth County Farm Bureau and Wisconsin FFA Alumni. In his retirement, Bill enjoyed restoring old tractors and spending time with his loving family. His family and friends will always be grateful the happy memories and the love they received from such a kindhearted and humble man.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dawn Grenzow; children, Tara (Dan) Luers and Tyler (Kelly) Grenzow; grandchildren, Chloe Grenzow and Ori, Charlie and Caidan; siblings, Peggy (Randy) Clark, Ellen (Bill) Kiekhaefer, Bob (Darlene Hardenbrook) Grenzow, Shari (Tom) Grenzow-Mauer; sister in-law, Priscilla (William) Collette; mother in-law, Beverly Wescott; and many very special nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents; and father in-law, Rollin “Rollie” Wescott; sister in-law and brother in-law, Suzanne and Ronnie Braden.
Bill requested that everyone attending, wear jeans and comfortable clothing, he was not a suit and tie man. If you have something IH Red, please wear it!
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019 at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME; with visitation from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Agrace Hospice of Janesville. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting his family.

Ferradermis competes at FIRST World Championships

In March, after finishing the qualification rounds ranked 3rd out of 54 teams, the Whitewater High School Robotics Team Ferradermis captained the second seeded alliance in the elimination rounds at the FIRST Wisconsin Regional, selecting the teams Paradigm Shift from Pewaukee High School and Oriole Assault from Hartford Union High School to compete with them on their alliance. The alliance was victorious, eventually defeating the alliance led by the team Wingus and Dingus from New Zealand in the finals to claim the Regional Title and qualify for Worlds.
The FIRST World Championships in Detroit hosted 408 high school robotics teams from around the world divided into 6 divisions of 68 teams each from April 24 through the 27th. Each division hosted its own qualification and elimination rounds with the winning alliance moving onto the Einstein field to compete against the other division winners. Twenty-seven members of the team traveled to Detroit where Drivers Danny Soto and Colin Chenoweth, Human Players Jenna Lee and Wesley Salverson, and Technician Zach Brantmeier took the robot Chief Lee onto the field for competition.
Ferradermis competed in the Tesla Division with teams from 15 states, Canada, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Israel, Japan, and Singapore. Ferradermis was randomly placed in the Tesla Division along with their winning alliance partner Paradigm Shift from the Wisconsin Regional, and the two teams ended up having to play against each other in the qualification rounds in Detroit; fittingly, that match ended in a tie. The most unique alliance of three which Ferradermis was a part of was when they simultaneously joined forces with the teams from Chile and Israel.
Ferradermis ended the qualification rounds ranked 52 out of 68, and did not make the playoffs. They battled valiantly in each and every qualification match with their last match producing their best overall performance by any of their 10 randomly assigned alliances. Ferradermis was only one of six teams in the Tesla Division to have a perfect score across all 10 qualification matches for the sandstorm period of the game where the robot could either operate autonomously or the drivers could navigate by the use of cameras. Their total cargo points from all 10 matches with their alliances ranked 32nd overall and their total habitat climbing points from all 10 matches with their alliances ranked 33rd overall. Although Ferradermis scored a lot of points, and the matches were typically very close in their final scores, ultimately it was the overall win-loss record of 1-8-1 that left Ferradermis in 52nd.
In addition to competing and talking with students from around the world, Ferradermis members had the opportunity to visit the Innovation Faire where many global companies demonstrated their latest and greatest technologies. They also attended workshops on a wide array of topics related to robotics, outreach, and running a team and had the opportunity to check out scholarship row where many major universities presented information on the $80 million in scholarships available to FIRST participants. The team also had the pleasure of cheering on Team #930 from Mukwonago High School as they came within a single point of winning the World Championship in the finals at Ford Field on Saturday night.

Ferradermis is currently accepting new members for summer activities including our second annual Boot Camp from August 3-10 at Whitewater High School. Corey Jevon Mattert, 48, Oak Creek, WI, formerly of Palmyra, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI.
Corey was born on June 18, 1970 in Waukesha, WI to William and Helen (Migach) Mattert. He attended Palmyra High School. Corey enjoyed nature and riding his bicycle everywhere. Corey would often record his adventures on video and wrote poetry and music. He loved to pull pranks and make people laugh. In 2017 Corey met the love of his life, Chelise Kubacki.
He is survived by his soulmate Chelise Kubacki and her daughters Savannah and Layla, Oak Creek; sons Shawn Burg, Arizona, Levi Mattert, Texas; 3 grandchildren; sister Sandra (Dennis) Kling, Dousman, WI, William (Jean) Mattert, Whitewater, WI, Rickie (Jody) Mattert, Hartland, WI, Timothy (Melody) Mattert, Paducah, KY; his best friend, David Syck, Palmyra, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3:00pm at Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 550 N. Newcomb St. Whitewater, WI 53190. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00pm until the time of the service.

Carla C. Allenstein, 63, a resident of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away May 4, 2019, at the Madonna Rehab Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska as the result of complications from a fall in her home in June 2018.
Carla was the loving wife of Dan Roh.
Carla was born in Whitewater, Wisconsin on July 26, 1955, to Dr. Lee and Betty Jo Allenstein. She graduated from Whitewater High School and then went on to receive a BS degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and pursued her MBA at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
She began her professional career in retail at Macy’s in Kansas City, then joined Hallmark Cards also in Kansas City. On the side she taught piano (Allenstein Piano Studio). In the mid-90s she resigned from Hallmark and committed herself full time to her piano studio. This was her true calling. To watch Carla working with her students in her studio or during one of her student’s recitals or competitions was to see someone who truly loved her work.
Her other passions were cooking, gardening, playing bridge (for fun and competitive) and dogs, specifically miniature dachshunds. Be they her dogs, a friend’s or a just stranger walking their dog, there was an immediate connection. There was pure joy for Carla when she helped rescue a dog from a puppy mill.
Carla is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dan Roh, her brother Steve (Karen) Allenstein of Madison, Wisconsin, brother Scott (Donna) of Weyauwega, Wisconsin, sister-in-law Jackie Roh of Greensboro, North Carolina, brother in-law John Roh and sister-in-law Jean Morton Roh of Columbus, Nebraska, brother in-law Pat and sister-in-law Beth Roh of Abie, Nebraska and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to family and friends. Your support and prayers played a critical role in Carla’s drive to “get better” and potentially return home.
There will be an open house at the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas on Saturday, May 25th from 1-3 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m. Burial will take place on Monday, May 27th at 11 a.m. in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Abie, Nebraska.

Nora Ruthann Jagodzinski, beloved daughter of Chris and Sara (DiPrizio) Jagodzinski, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019.
Nora brought joy and smiles throughout her 2 years 7 months and 10 days to everyone she touched.
In addition to her parents, Nora is survived by her three brothers, Caleb, Evan and Bentley; maternal grandparents Kevin and Jodi Hare-Paynter; paternal grandparents Greg Jagodzinski (Benjamin Treuer ); great grand-parents Ray and Carol Paynter; uncle and aunt T.J. and Tricia DiPrizio; uncles Josh Paynter and Casey Paynter; aunt and uncle Chelsea and Joe Zastrow; uncle Spencer Jagodzinski-Treuer; aunt Laura Jagodzinski; special aunt Jo Ann (Auntie Jo) Jagodzinski; cousins Matteo and Giovanni DiPrizio, and Zander Zastrow; numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends who loved Nora very much.
Nora began and ended her short time on earth surrounded by unending love not only from her mother, father and brothers but also from her devoted grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and large extended family. Nora was sweet and shy but had facial expressions that could tell you exactly what she was thinking. She was just beginning to learn her ABCs and colors. Her smile could light up a room and melt your heart. Nora had a special bond with her brothers that went beyond words. They were fiercely devoted to and loved her very much, smothering her with many hugs and kisses. Nora had many pets that were her friends, but one pet in particular was the bond with her best-pig Rosie. They lit up each other’s world.
The family would like to take this time to thank the doctors and staff of American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin for their incredible care to Nora and the entire family. The family appreciates all of the prayers and concerns extended to us during this time.
Visitation will take place at Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater, Wisconsin on Wednesday May 15, 2019 from 4 pm to 6 pm with a service to follow. All are invited. A private family graveside service will be conducted on Thursday May 16, 2019.

WUSD All-District 5th Grade Choir Concert Tuesday, May 14
Over 100 5th grade singers from across the district will perform their Spring concert at the High School Auditorium Tuesday, May 14 at 7:00 PM.
Musical selections will bring joy to all with “Pick Yourself Up” from the musical “Swing Time”; the jazz chart “Blue Skies”; Gospel song “Rock-a My Soul”; “Feed the Birds” from “Mary Poppins”; the energetic song “Bonse Aba” from Zambia, Africa; and “De Colores” from Mexico. The concert is directed by music teachers Christine Hayes, Justin Kamp and Val Troxel, and accompanied by Barb Taylor.
The concert is free of charge and we invite people to bring a food pantry item.
