This week was a great week for our student athletes. We got a lot of quality work in and we found out some things about the athletes and helping them discover some new events. It was fun watching our young kids perform at the Jefferson Meet. They got to compete against their peers and they really came into their own at this meet.
At the Randy Lyon Memorial you will see from the results that our student-athletes, once again, got after it.
When we put athletes in events this time of year we are always trying to find out where their strengths are as well as blend in quality work. Everything we do now, the events we put kids in, encouraging them to try different events, helps gear the entire team for meets down the road. The fact that our student-athletes work so hard, are focused on their goals, and focused on excellence, team, and family, makes them an absolute pleasure to coach. They are training, racing, jumping, vaulting and throwing just like one would expect from the Whippets.
The City of Whitewater – Water Utility will begin its semi-annual water main and hydrant-flushing program on Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3. Flushing of water mains is necessary in order to continue to deliver clean, safe water to our citizens. If we have repairs more than expected throughout the week, we may have to continue flushing into the following week.
Flushing of water mains and hydrants
may cause discoloration of the water. Therefore, caution should be
used when washing white clothing. Discoloration of the water due to
flushing WILL stain white clothing. We notify the public in all local
media outlets; therefore, we cannot be responsible for stained
clothing. If discoloration is detected, run the cold-water faucet
until the discoloration clears. While we are still flushing in your
area, the water may take a while to clear up. You may want to wait
until we have left the area and the water settles down before running
your water tap. If reduced pressure is experienced after flushing,
you may have to clean the aerators on your house faucets.
Thank you for your patience and
understanding during water main and hydrant flushing.
If you have any questions, please
contact the Water Utility at 473-0560.
A balmy spring day greeted the Whitewater Whippet Golf Team at the Geneva National Invitational on Monday. She also was able to score lower on the back nine, firing a 58 on the front and 55 on the back. The freshman trio of Camden Frye, Dane Hillmer, and Jaden Condon rounded out the scoring for the Whippets with rounds of 135, 135, and 123. From Coach Dittmer:
We lost the meet 6-1 and we are now 1-2 in RVC play this season. Our lone win was Austin Kaja in his #2 singles against Connor Paulin of East Troy. Austin was able to handle his opponent’s big serve and dictate a lot of the points with crisp groundstrokes. He won the match with an impressive score of 6-0, 6-1. The rest of our singles lineup showed good resilience by battling back and winning the all the second sets after dropping the opening set in each case.
Unfortunately, we were unable to take advantage of any of the second set victories as we dropped all three match tiebreakers. East Troy did a good job of raising their game during key points in the tiebreaks. Our doubles matches did not go very well across the board. We were unable to win a set at any of the doubles flights. That being said, I did see a lot of opportunities for us to put points away, but we just couldn’t come up with our best shots when we needed them. Credit East Troy for great hustle and effort to put a lot of balls in play. We definitely had some weaknesses exposed today, but that gives us some things to work on in practice this week.
We don’t have another meet until next Monday so hopefully we can correct some of the mistakes we made by then and get next week off to a better start.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team has released its 2019 schedule, which begins Sept. 7 at Perkins Stadium against Dubuque (Iowa) at 2 p.m.
More information will be released about season tickets and parking in the coming months.
The Dubuque game is one of three non-conference contests on the 2019 slate for the Warhawks, who enter the program’s 126th season of competition this fall.
UW-Whitewater topped Dubuque 38-6 on the road in its 2018 season opener. Members of the American Rivers Conference, the Spartans finished with a 7-3 record last season, and are coached by former UW-W offensive coordinator Stan Zweifel.
The Warhawks visit Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) on Sept. 14 for a 12 p.m. kickoff in another rematch from last season. The Cobbers finished 5-5 last fall, including a 4-4 mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
UW-Whitewater defeated Concordia-Moorhead 24-6 at Perkins Stadium in last year’s affair.
The non-conference season closes Sept. 21, when the Warhawks visit St. Xavier at 1 p.m. in Chicago. The Cougars reached the NAIA national quarterfinals and finished with a 9-4 record in 2018. UW-Whitewater last played St. Xavier on Sept. 5, 2008, at Perkins Stadium, posting a 24-9 victory.
Following a bye week, the seven-game Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule kicks off on Oct. 5 at home against UW-Eau Claire. The contest, which begins at 2 p.m., is part of Family Fest weekend at UW-Whitewater.
The Warhawks continue action at Perkins Stadium Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. with a game against UW-Platteville for the Miner’s Axe. The game will be the 25th edition of the George Chryst Bowl in honor of former Pioneers head coach George Chryst, who passed away suddenly in 1992.
UW-Whitewater hits the road for games at UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. and at UW-River Falls on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
After hosting UW-La Crosse on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m., the Warhawks close the home portion of the schedule Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. against UW-Stout for Shriners Day and Senior Day at Perkins Stadium.
The regular season concludes Nov. 16 with a 1 p.m. game at UW-Oshkosh.
UW-Whitewater won the program’s 36th WIAC championship and reached the NCAA Division III semifinals for the 11th time in program history in 2019. The team finished with a 13-1 record, including a 7-0 mark in conference play.
