The Whippet volleyball team went 1-1 during Homecoming week. They lost to East Troy 3-0 Tuesday night but rebounded and defeated Clinton 3-0 (25-15, 25-21 & 25-20) Thursday night. The team had one of their best matches serve receiving which led to Cora Linos setting beautifully to the attackers. Kiyla Kopecky took command in the third set from the service line. She served 10 times in a row and had 8 service aces. Kiyla’s serves are very difficult to pass due the velocity, flatness and the huge amount of float or knuckle she puts on the ball.
Sunday the Whippets topped off the week of festivities volunteering at the Run For Trey event at Starin Park. It was very meaningful for them to support the family friendly event where the proceeds are used to maintain the field through its endowment and fund 4 scholarships that are given in Trey’s name. The benefit the field provides to the youth community teams, the visiting teams from around the region and the students and families who visit is truly amazing.
The Whippets will travel to Edgerton this Saturday for the Rock Valley Conference tournament, where the first match is slated for 9:00 AM against Evansville. Regional play-offs begin Tuesday, October 22, 2019 as Whitewater travels to Walworth to take on Big Foot.

This quarter, the WHS Choirs have been singing about and thinking about the idea of community. We are thinking about the community that is our choir, our school, our city, our state, our nation, and our world. The songs we are singing at our Fall Concert are songs we sing as a community or are about the communities in which we live.
The Choir students met in early October and decided they would like to help the Whitewater community. In August, the WHS Choir Director, Mrs. Tordera, visited Whitewater’s Community Space. It is a place where people can drop off donations and where others can find what they need. When asked what their highest need item was, the volunteers said “Diapers and wipes!” The Choir students were told about The Community Space and what they needed. They agreed to help and said they would bring in baby items and bring them to The Community Space as one large donation. Hence, the WHS Choirs Community Baby Shower was born!
We will accept baby items as well as non-perishable food donations and feminine hygiene products. The students took it one step further and said they would like to have a collection at our Fall Concert on Wednesday, October 23rd. (They are a fantastic group of young people!) We will have boxes ready for donations at the concert. The concert will be held at Whitewater High School in the auditorium at 7:00 pm.
WHS Students and Staff as well as Whitewater community members are welcome to donate to this project as well. Donations can be dropped off at the WHS office or at the WHS Choir room.
Thank you in advance for any support you can give to this project. We truly live in a special place!

The Whippets hosted the Rock Valley Conference leaders, the Edgerton Crimson Tide, for their Homecoming Game on Friday October 11th. The Whippets struck first scoring in a big way on a 76 yard touchdown run by Will Leibbrand on the second play of the game. Unfortunately the Crimson Tide offense was too much to handle as the Whippets lost by a score of 54-13.
It was a special night for Leibbrand as he racked up 186 yards rushing on just six carries. Eli Kohl had the other Whitewater touchdown, a run of 6 yards in the 4th quarter. Martin Gonzalez led the defense with 9 tackles, Evaristo Soto added 7 (2 for a loss), and Carter Friend and David Cushman each had 6 tackles.
The Whippets will finish their season as they travel to Jefferson to take on the Eagles this Friday at 7pm.

UW-Whitewater claimed the Miner’s Axe for the 23rd time in the 25-year history of the George Chryst Memorial Bowl. The rivalry game started in 1995 and was dedicated to Chryst, who passed away suddenly in 1992 after coaching UW-Platteville to a 79-60-2 record and the 1980 league championship.
Donald Allender (7 receptions, 72 yards, TD) and Tyler Reinhardt (14 tackles, 1 TFL) were named Offensive and Defensive MVPs, respectively, for the Pioneers.
The Warhawks were first on the board, taking advantage of good field position off a shanked punt late in the first quarter. Ponick plunged in from two yards out to make it 7-0 with 57 seconds on the clock.
After a UW-Platteville punt that pinned UW-Whitewater at its own 3-yard line, the Warhawks went 97 yards in 11 plays, keyed by a 41-yard pass from Oles to junior wide receiver JT Parish and finished by a 9-yard strike from Oles to senior wide receiver Josh Ringelberg that made it 14-0 with 7:05 left in the second quarter.
The Pioneers scored on their next drive, then tied the game in the third quarter with 4:53 remaining following a 10-play, 90-yard drive.
The two teams exchanged punts before UW-Whitewater took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter on Ware’s 10-yard run with 11:03 to go.
Two more punts were exchanged before the Warhawks stopped UW-Platteville on back-to-back possessions on fourth down. UW-Whitewater ran out the clock in the final two minutes and finished the contest with 13 more minutes of possession.
The Warhawks visit UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
