UW-Whitewater also claimed the WIAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which is slated for May 12-15, 2020, at the PGA National Resort – Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. It will be the team’s third straight appearance in the national tournament.

Saturday’s second round was suspended due to inclement weather and concluded on Sunday morning. The third and final round of the tournament was played Sunday afternoon.

UW-Whitewater’s three-peat is the first in school history and the third in conference history.

The Warhawks, who extended their active win streak to 15 matches, also earn the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 5.

UW-Whitewater, currently ranked seventh in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, closes out the regular season this week with a pair of matches. The team hosts UW-Stevens Point Friday, 11/1 at 7 p.m. before heading to Carthage College in Kenosha to take on Aurora (Ill.).

Whitewater Rotary Club & Culver’s invite you to help end polio – Wed., 11/6

Rotary Club members in Whitewater and throughout the world are taking action to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio, a vaccine-preventable paralyzing disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.  Rotary Clubs throughout the world launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative more than three decades ago.  At that time polio paralyzed 1,000 children every day.  With the help of global partnerships, polio cases have dropped from 350,000 cases of wild polio virus 1988 to 33 cases in 2018, a reduction of 99.9%.  These 33 cases were reported in two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.  With polio nearly eradicated, Rotary must and will sustain the commitment to reach every child with the polio vaccine or risk the return of this debilitating disease.

Since 1985 Rotary has committed $50 million each year to support global polio eradication.
The Bill and Linda Gates Foundation has pledged to match that amount 2 to 1 for a total contribution of $150 million annually.  Since 1985, Rotary has contributed more than $1.9 billion.

The Whitewater Rotary Club invites you to join them on Wednesday, 11/6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Culver’s Restaurant in Whitewater.  Culver’s will contribute a percentage of sales that evening that will be matched by the Whitewater Rotary Club.  That amount will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation.

Rotary International is a global network of 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries who unite to create lasting change in communities and countries around the world.  For more than 110 years Rotary’s members have used their passion, energy and resources to improve lives through service.  The motto “Service Above Self” is used by Rotarians each day in their personal and professional lives.  From community projects and providing local scholarships to supporting literacy and peace to providing clean water and better health care, Rotary members are always working to improve the world.

Members of Whitewater Rotary Club and Culver’s Restaurant invite you to join them on Wednesday, November 6 for an evening of good food and fellowship.  Your support can and will make a difference.

Our grief is lightened by the knowledge he is being welcomed home with loving, open arms by his mother Joie and father “Big Walt”, sister April and brothers Scott and Craig.  He was a loving father, skilled artisan, sensitive soul and wonderful storyteller. “Brento” was a man who did not always live his life conforming to or confined by what society ordained and expected.  He was a “free spirit” with a generous nature and a wonderful creative ability. He leaves another hole in the fabric of our family that will not be mended until we are once again reunited in that longed for place of peace and rest. “Ride On…”

WIAA Sectional Results; Gio Anello Punched Ticket to State

On Saturday, 10/26, the Whippet CC program hosted its first ever double CC sectional which include their own Division 2 level tournament race as well as Division 3 races after. It was a spectacular day to showcase cross country at a high level in our own backyard. The event was a great success!

The girls raced first and ran very strong in perfect racing conditions. In fact, many runners ran significantly faster on the same race course than they did a little over a week ago at the Rock Valley Conference Meet. Freshman Sabrina Bomberg once again led the team as the first girl across the line from Whitewater. Her time of 24:31 was good enough for 59th place and mere seconds off her season best on arguably the toughest course the team races on all year. Olive Coburn broke 25 minutes for the first time on the UWW course stopping the clock in 24:55 which placed her 64th. Gwen Truesdale placed 69th in 25:20 after battling some injuries late in the season. Senior Morgan Stillwagon ran her lifetime best by 42 seconds to take 72nd in 25:40. Sophie Walton was 81st in 27:05 and Jenny Villarreal took 85th in 28:42. The girls program placed 11th in the race. This official marks the end to the girls CC season for 2019.

The boys raced next which were led by Sophomore Gio Anello. Gio punched his ticket to state for the first time as he was one of the top 5 individuals to cross the line that were not on the two qualifying teams. Gio had to do a serious gut check with 1000 meters to go to see his dreams become reality as he dug deep to not let anyone pass him and hold onto his position in the field. His 10th place finish was the fifth and final position to train and race one more week. His finish time for the 5K course was 17:47. Cooper Hammond was the next Whippet across the line in taking 42nd in 19:35. Running close together as a pack again were fellow Whippets Peter Zimdars and Manny Rodriguez. They placed 46th and 49th with times of 19:43 and 19:48. Will Hofmann placed 59th in 20:08, CJ Tomomitsu was 63rd in 20:17 and Mason West ran his last race in a Whippet jersey running 21:24 which was good enough was 76th. Junior Trenten Zahn did not compete due to injury. The boys team finished in 8th place overall.

Gio will be racing at the WIAA State XC Meet on Saturday, Nov. 2nd in Wisconsin Rapids, located on the Ridges Golf Course. His race time is 2:00.
