Steve Watson writes, “August 9 on my daily saunter, I noticed this rainbow with no color. I sent the photo to Mark Baden, channel 12 weather man.  He replied it’s a fogbow.  The droplets of water are too small to refract the light. He also pointed out that the halo around the shadow of my head is called heiligenschein.”

fogbow: a nebulous arc or circle of white or yellowish light sometimes seen in fog [Merriam-webster.com]

heiligenschein: a bright light around the shadow of a person’s head (as on a field or lawn) caused by diffraction and reflection of sunlight by dewdrops [Merriam-webster.com]
