Obituary: Sharron O. Craggs (née Hogan), 90

Sharron O. Craggs (née Hogan), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, peacefully passed away on November 1st, 2026, at Fairhaven Senior Services in Whitewater. She was 90.

Sharron was born August 10, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to H. Leslie Hogan and Audrey (Oppelt) Hogan. She graduated from Marshall High School and the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and later becoming a registered occupational therapist. After leaving her career to raise a family Sharron used her OT skills throughout her life to solve problems and make everyday life better for countless family members and friends.

In college, Sharron met the love of her life, Jack Craggs at a square dance mixer, and they married April 18, 1959. Before moving to Whitewater, Sharron lived in Harshaw, Wisconsin, where she and Jack shared their retirement years at the lake until his death in 2021. Before retiring to Harshaw, they lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Brookfield, Wisconsin; Palmetto, Florida; and Mount Washington, Ohio. Together, they shared adventures across the United States, especially Alaska, and throughout Europe, especially Germany. Sharron and Jack also enjoyed square dancing and were active in their churches wherever they lived.

Sharron was an accomplished seamstress, a fabulous home cook, a lucky fisherwoman and a lover of the outdoors. She loved knitting and teaching others the craft, lovingly creating countless pairs of mittens for family, friends and people experiencing homelessness. She was also an avid coupon clipper with a keen eye for a great deal. Her beloved cardinals were ever-present in her life—at the bird feeders, in pictures and puzzles, and throughout her homes.

Above all, people mattered to Sharron. Through many moves and life changes, she made friends everywhere she went, forming close connections that lasted a lifetime. She loved cooking for friends and family, none of whom were ever left wanting a spoonful more.

Sharron is survived by her sons, Jay (Jan Bilgen) and Chris (Wendi Stelse); her daughter, Becky (Bruce Young); her grandchildren, Nick Craggs (Claire Erdal), Matt Craggs (Alyssa Wilke), Chris Young and Ella Young; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Dawn (Hogan) Tait, nieces Lisa (Tait) Mord, Brenda (Tait) Halvorsen, nephew Dan Tait, and numerous cousins and friends.

At her request, a family memorial gathering at Fairhaven Senior Services in Whitewater will be held to honor her life. Her burial will follow at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 20, 2026, beside her beloved Jack at Union Grove Cemetery, 4521 Lakewood Road, Harshaw, WI 54529. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate), or to Rainbow Hospice (https://rainbowcommunitycare.org) whose staff provided extraordinary care and support.

Nitardy Funeral Home of Whitewater is proudly serving the family during this time.
