| Gov. Tony Evers ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Sat., Oct. 1, 2022, to honor firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities as members of Wisconsin’s fire services. In recognition of Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day, Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial Inc. holds a Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids. This year, the event will take place on October 1. “The Memorial Wall in Wisconsin Rapids holds the names of more than 300 firefighters who have served their communities heroically and who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Gov. Evers. “This day is an important one to many as they honor their loved ones, colleagues, and friends with the Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession, and the state of Wisconsin joins them in their mourning as we remember their fallen heroes. They will never be forgotten.” In addition to lowering the flags on Sat., Oct. 1, 2022, due to the Final Alarm Ceremony, the Executive Order also lowers the flags on Sat., Oct. 15, 2022, in honor of Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day during Fire Prevention Week, which is set by state statute. |

Stuff the Bus (at the schools)

After many years of co-sponsoring Stuff the Bus, the Whitewater FFA is passing the torch to Whitewater Unified School District Student Councils. The Student Councils, along with Nelson’s Bus Service, will be supporting the food drive. Please support Stuff the Bus under new management; your support goes a long way for those in need.
During Homecoming Week (October 3-7), please bring donations to any school in the district. Each building will have designated areas in which food and other supplies can be dropped off during the school day.
Your support for the community is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Southern Lakes Conference Reunion (Update: phone number correction)

The 5th Annual Southern Lakes Conference reunion will be on Friday, Oct. 7th again at the Place To Be in downtown Elkhorn at noon. This year we are including the years from 1954 to 1962. So anyone who played any sport in the old SLC those years please try to attend. Please contact some of your teammates from those years to come. It is a good time to talk old times with some of your foes from years ago and have a great lunch. If anyone has any questions you can contact me Tom Kraus gatortom57@yahoo.com 262-215-9985.
Editor’s note: We recognize that the logo for the conference, and the schools that were part of the conference, were probably different in 1954-1962. If someone has a logo from that era we’ll be pleased to use it!
Editor’s note, 9/28 @ 9:40 a.m. – Phone number for Tom Kraus corrected.
