Editor’s note: The following information was received from Fort HealthCare.

Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson, WI announces it has been recognized as a 2022 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX™.

“We are proud to be named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital once again,” said Mike Wallace, President, and CEO of Fort HealthCare. “In another year of challenges, the combination of our people working with our mission, vision, and values has kept us on track for continuously achieving recognitions like the Top 100.”

“Despite unprecedented adversity, rural providers continue to display resiliency and a steadfast commitment to their communities,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “Honoring the Top 100 is one of the highpoints of our year. We are delighted to recognize the exceptional performance and innovation of this year’s recipients, particularly in light of the extraordinary challenges facing America’s rural health safety net.”

Box Score

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s basketball team used a suffocating defense and strong shooting on the offensive end Tuesday night on its way to a 72-49 win against UW-River Falls in the second round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (presented by Culver’s) at Kachel Gymnasium.

With the victory, the fourth-seeded Warhawks (15-10 overall) advance to the tournament semifinals, where they’ll visit No. 1 seed UW-Oshkosh Thursday at 7 p.m.

Elijah Lambert tallied a career-high 25 points to go with six rebounds and four assists to lead UW-Whitewater, which shot 49.1 percent from the floor and held the Falcons (14-10) to 35.1 percent shooting. UW-W scored 22 points off UW-River Falls’ 18 turnovers.

Trevon Chislom registered 12 points and two steals, while Drew Fisher collected nine points and six rebounds off the bench.

The two teams exchanged baskets over the first six-plus minutes of the contest before the Warhawks embarked on a 9-0 run, including a 3-pointer by Lambert and two layups from Chislom, for a 19-10 lead with 10:51 remaining in the first half.

The Falcons recorded the next five points, but UW-Whitewater responded with another 9-0 run, including two buckets from Fisher, to make it 28-15 with 5:49 on the clock.

Gray gave UW-W its largest lead of the half at the 3:13 mark as his jumper made it 34-19. UW-River Falls scored four of the last five points in the period to narrow the Warhawk lead to 35-24.

Neither team scored in the second half until the 16:16 mark, when a 3-point play by Jack Brahm gave UW-Whitewater a 38-24 advantage. The play was part of UW-W’s 7-0 run to start the half.

The Warhawks’ lead never dipped below 11 in the second half.

UW-Whitewater will make its 13th appearance in the WIAC Tournament semifinals since the tournament’s inception in 1999. The winner of Thursday’s game advances to Saturday’s final at the highest remaining seed.

The Warhawks and UW-Oshkosh split a pair of meetings this season, including UW-W’s narrow 48-46 loss against the Titans on Feb. 16.

FCCU Received WI Governor’s Financial Literacy Award

Editor’s Note: The following information was received from Fort Community Credit Union

Fort Community Credit Union (FCCU) was recognized on Tuesday, February 15th by Gov. Tony Evers as a recipient of the 2021 Governor’s Financial Literacy Award during a virtual ceremony. The honor is given in recognition of the efforts FCCU has put forth to serve members and community members by offering a vast variety of free educational resources.

As part of their core values, FCCU aspires to be the humble and approachable financial educator for every generation in their lifelong journey. Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, they have seen an overwhelming increase of video watch time and social post impressions related to financial literacy content. This ultimately means community members are more informed on financial topics giving them the knowledge needed to make sound financial decisions throughout life. The video library is complete with Spanish subtitles allowing the resources to be accessible in more ways to more people.

In 2021 FCCU team members dedicated over 330 hours to developing virtual Financial  Literacy resources. This includes the development of the Common Cents video playlist with 23 videos ranging in topics from “how to read your credit score” to “how to teach your kids to save.” The FCCU online video library has over 184,000 minutes of watch time with a reach of over 666,000 impressions, an increase of over 247% from 2020.

Gov. Evers is quoted in another statement regarding this award saying, “Financial education should build on and respond to people’s individual strengths, circumstances,  and needs in order to help them work toward their own unique goals. The dedication of  these individuals and organizations to help Wisconsinites become more financially secure and achieve their dreams is commendable and helps ensure not only the future success of individuals and families but our entire state.”

The recipients of this award were selected by the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy and Capability from the nominations submitted for consideration. Criteria used to judge nominations included: innovative implementation of an effective financial literacy and capability program or program element within the last two years; emphasis on financial inclusion, demonstrated measurable results; collaboration with partners; and scalability of the program design. Visit the Council’s webpage to read a synopsis of the recipients’  efforts https://wdfi.org/OFL/govcouncilfinlit/

When asked about the efforts of FCCU, Sue Johnson, President, and CEO said, “This was definitely a group effort, I know that many of our team members have spent time in classrooms, starred in financial literacy videos, filmed and edited videos, and worked with our members to help them be in a better place financially. Our team members are the reason we won this award. I am so proud of them for making this possible.”

Lecture at UW-Whitewater by Renowned Designer and Artist Jordan Moze

Editor’s Note: The following information was received from the University of Wisconisin-Whitewater, College of Arts and Communication

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Art and Design welcomes designer, artist, and entrepreneur Jordan Mozer for a free lecture and presentation at 7 p.m. on March 7, 2022. The lecture will take place in Young Auditorium as part of The Annette and Dale Schuh Visiting Artist Endowment. This event is free and open to the public; attendees are asked to rsvp by visiting www.uww.edu/artist. The Young Auditorium is located at 950 W. Main Street, alongside the Greenhill Center of the Arts. Masks are required for anyone entering campus buildings. For the most current safety guidelines, please visit the Warhawks are Back webpage at uww.edu/warhawks-are-back

In the lecture, Mozer will detail his processes of conceptualizing and realizing various projects of different scales. He will also introduce “Love in the Chroma Zone,” the project he will work on with students during his residency from March 8 – 11. Mozer, based in Chicago, has explored the complexities of human relationships through paintings, drawings, and sculptures that give form to genetics, gender, love, and identity for over twenty years.

“Love in the Chroma Zone” can be traced to a series of sketches commissioned by Mick Jagger for a series of Rock opera sets and props Jordan imagined for the Rolling Stones. Some of these elements were transformed in subsequent projects, including “Herzblut” and “East” in Hamburg, Germany, and at a hotel in Times Square in New York for Bill Marriott.

In the latest iterations, the “Love in the Chroma Zone” incorporates meditations on genetics and the accelerating transformation of ideas about the gender spectrum and sexual expression. The project will engage UW-Whitewater students in assisting Jordan to realize a variety of two- and three-dimensional artworks and create a narrative environment in the gallery.

During his residency, Mozer will work with students over the course of four days to complete projects that include: murals scaled to the exhibition space, the finishing and base making for six full-sized sculptures, and the finishing of (24) 12” tall cast sculptures. Following his residency, the works will be on exhibit in Crossman Gallery from March 11 – April 1, 2022. Crossman Gallery hours can be found by visiting us online at uww.edu/coac/events.

Mozer’s visit is funded by the Annette and Dale Schuh Visiting Artist Endowment, established in 2015, in recognition of the experience Annette Schuh had at UW-Whitewater as an undergraduate art student, interacting with notable visiting artists. It is with this remarkable donor intent that artists of prominence visit UW-Whitewater on an annual basis.

Join us for the public lecture on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in Young Auditorium. This event is free to attend and open to the public; attendees are asked to rsvp by visiting www.uww.edu/artist. An ASL interpreter will be available. If other accommodations are desired, please contact Audra Lange (262) 472-5943 for further information. Masks are required for anyone entering campus buildings. For the most current safety guidelines, please visit the Warhawks are Back webpage at uww.edu/warhawks-are-back. The Crossman Gallery is located at 950 W. Main Street, in the Greenhill Center of the Arts.
