The Whitewater High School Gymnastics team had a great start to their season, placing second at the Jefferson Invitational with a 117.850 and placing sixth at the Janesville Invitational scoring 116.525. Competing at both meets were returning Seniors Co-Captain Sydney Treder, Co-Captain Autumn Lesar, Katherine Staniszewski, and Nicole Tomomitsu.

The recipient of the 2018 Making Democracy Work Award is Miguel Aranda. A life-long resident of Whitewater, he is a Financial Specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Currently serving on the city Community Involvement Commission, he has been instrumental in engaging the population in Whitewater in such projects as voter registration and turn-out. She was born on May 8, 1922, in Elko, Nevada. Her childhood years were spent with her seven siblings in Wells, Nevada, after which she attended the University of Nevada-Reno. Dorothea married Robert W. Dean on August 7, 1941. She was actively involved in P.E.O., as well as church and music organizations in Spencer, Mason City, and Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was a long-time resident of Whitewater, WI where he served as the Whitewater Town Board Chairman and retired as an independent business owner.Mr. Fero enjoyed serving as chairman and also traveling. He is survived by his daughter Laura of Boone, NC, son Scott of Phoenix, AZ, three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by a sibling, Joellen Malicki, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley Fero and his brother Bruce. A memorial is being planned in Whitewater for early summer 2019 to celebrate his life.
The UW-Whitewater Community Optimist Club is sparking some holiday cheer by serving a hot breakfast accompanied by Santa Claus and others from the North Pole.
The Optimist Club will be hosting their annual Breakfast with Santa event on Sat. December 8, 2018 from 8:00a.m.-10:45am at Esker Hall—which , Northwest of Starin Park at the corner of Prairie Street and Lauderdale.
With an admission of $5 for adults and $1 for children, come for a breakfast of French toast, sausage, donut holes, and coffee, milk 45 amand orange juice. Enjoy a morning filled with music, activities, and a special visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and many elves. Opportunities for printed and online photos will be available.
