Keep warm with a cup of hot cocoa during the Parade of Lights from 5 to 8 pm on December 7 in Downtown Whitewater. Proceeds support the art programming at Studio 84 for people with disabilities.
Also, join Studio 84 for their 2nd Saturdays event on December 8 from 10 am to 4 pm. The special project for the month is holiday ornaments.
After three great weeks of practice, the whippet wrestlers finally were able to hit the mats in competition against someone other than a teammate. This tournament in Watertown is a great opener for the team as it has some very competitive teams there. The format of the tournament has the student-athletes compete in either two or three rounds depending on the size of the bracket and, depending on how they do, they then get put into placement pools. This is a great opportunity for the students as it allows them to see good competition and then in the later rounds be in brackets at their ability.
Whitewater wrestled pretty well in their first competition placing four guys in the top four and finishing the day in 7th place out of 17 teams. It is always nice for the coaching staff to see the team in competition so there can be evaluation and see where we need to focus more work.
Placing 3rd for the whippets were Amaru Casas at 182 pounds and Gehrig Monday at 195 pounds. Both of these student-athletes wrestled well on the day going 4-1. Finishing in 4th place was Trenten Zahn at 120 pounds and Jaden Salmieri at 138 pounds. They each wrestled their way into the gold bracket and ran into really tough guys here. They finished the day 3-2. Taking 5th for Whitewater was freshman Carter Friend at 152. He finished the day at 4-1 losing in the quarterfinals to a sectional champion from Mineral Point. Other than that setback Friend looked good in his first varsity tournament.
The Whippets are in action two times this upcoming week. On Thursday they travel to Big Foot to open up the dual meet season and on Saturday the team will be hosting the 8th annual Whitewater Invitational. Wrestling on Saturday will begin at 9 am.

Eric Loepp, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. teaches courses in American government, political behavior and research methods. His research focuses on candidate evaluation and electoral decision-making, particularly in primary elections. His research has been published in Electoral Studies, the Journal of Political Science Education and American Politics Research, among other outlets. Current research projects focus on the role challengers play in shaping perceptions of candidates running for office, especially as they impact female politicians.
The First United Methodist Church of Whitewater will be presenting their Whitewater Area Ministry Christmas Cantata, “The Heart of Christmas” by Pepper Choplin, on December 9 at 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM at 145 S. Prairie Street in Whitewater.
The cantata incorporates blues, bluegrass, and traditional choral styles. Featured soloists are Katy Fortney, Nathan Roley, Barb Athas, Jenn Crone, and Ella Willman. The choir is accompanied by Jim Athas and directed by Christine Hayes. The narrations by the Rev. Phil Blackwell and the Rev. Susan Bresser tell the timeless Christmas story in a creative, profound way through the gospel of St. Luke. The choir will be accompanied by Bass, Drums, and Piano.
The Prime Time Youth Group of the Whitewater Area Regional Ministry of the United Methodist Church will host their annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 8 from 9 -11 am at First United Methodist Church, 145 S. Prairie St., Whitewater, WI.

The No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team forced four turnovers and took advantage of a pair of big plays on special teams Saturday during a 26-12 victory over No. 11 Bethel (Minn.) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship at Perkins Stadium.
The Warhawks (13-0 overall) will face No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) next Saturday, Dec. 8, at a time and location to be determined in their 11th appearance in the national semifinals.
For the third consecutive game, junior running back Ronny Ponick (Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) and sophomore running back Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) each rushed for 100 or more yards. Ponick carried 21 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while Peete posted 24 carries for 123 yards and one score.
The No. 17 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team was outscored by 15 points in the first quarter Saturday afternoon and was unable to recover in a 69-48 setback against fourth-ranked Thomas More (Ky.) in a non-conference affair at Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks (4-2 overall) were held to 27.1 percent shooting from the floor. The team finished with 15 offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points and shot 15-of-17 at the free-throw line.
Senior center Becky Deichl (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) led UW-Whitewater with nine points and added seven rebounds and one block. Senior forward Olivia Freckmann (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) tallied eight points and eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Adriana Green (Racine, Wis./Horlick) collected seven points and three rebounds.
The Whippet girls rolled over Edgerton, 57-26. Kacie Carollo led the scoring with 13 followed by Abby Grosinske with 12.
The Whippets boys hosted Jefferson in basketball, their first conference game of the new season, and lost 58-41. Ben Stoll led the Whippet scoring with 11, including three 3-pointers, followed by Dylan Pease with 10.
Next up the Whippets will play at Turner on Tuesday, December 4 followed by a home game against McFarland on Friday, December 7.
