Men’s Basketball: Warhawk Men Top UW-Eau Claire

The No. 8 UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team defeated UW-Eau Claire (9-10 overall, 1-7 WIAC), 75-59, at Kachel Gymnasium Saturday evening.

Junior guard Derek Rongstad led the Warhawks with 16 points and four assists.  Junior guards David Sachs and Dalton Menke both tallied 12 points and junior Marquis Turner added 11 points. For the complete story at UWWsports.com, 

Women’s Basketball: UW-Whitewater Executes Late, Picks Up Road Win

The No. 18 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team made its trademark third-quarter push and executed in the final minute of the game Saturday in a 61-58 triumph at UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown in Eau Claire, Wis.

Senior guard Malia Smith tallied a team-high 17 points and hit 8-of-8 at the free-throw line, including four in the final minute of the contest. She added two assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Senior forward Andrea Meinert posted 12 points, two assists, and three steals, and sophomore guard Camri Conley registered 10 points. Senior guard Brooke Trewyn totaled a game-high four blocks and added two steals to help UW-Whitewater force 26 turnovers. For complete story,

Whitewater Boys Basketball 53 McFarland 58

Whitewater Boys varsity basketball played another close game with the conference co-leader McFarland, coming up short with a 53-58 loss. Whitewater was led by Daniel Fuller with 14 points, followed by Roberto Navejas and Bryce Parrish with 12 each.

Whitewater returns to action at home against Monroe Tuesday.

Joshua Freiermuth, 2013 Whitewater High School Alum, graduates with honors from UW-Madison.

Joshua Freiermuth, 2013 Whitewater High School Alum graduated from UW Madison’s School of Business on December 17th, 2017 at the Kohl Center in Madison.  Josh was able to wear the stole of distinctive school achievement –an honor reserved for the top 20% of the graduating class.  Josh earned a double major in Business Administration & Operations and Technology Management with a Computer Science minor.  The graduate has accepted a position as an IT Application Analyst at General Mills in Minneapolis, MN.

Rhyme Time offers caregivers and children the perfect opportunity to engage with songs, rhymes, and simple stories.  Each 20-30 minute class period is followed by a play time. Please register on the Children’s Page of the library website.

Please note there is no Growing Readers class on February 1st.

Young Adult Advisory Council

Ages: 11-18
When: Tuesday, January 30  from 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Youth age 11-18 are invited to make friends, eat food, and have a positive impact within their community.  Under the direction of the Youth Educational Services Librarian, YAAC members select and review books, movies, and music for the young adult area, design and implement library programs and services for teens, and positively represent the library to their peers.

Interested teens should contact Deana Rolfsmeyer for an application.

Dr. Richard Haney, former Professor of History at UWW, to speak about his book: When is Daddy Coming Home? An American Family During World War II

The Whitewater Historical Society is fortunate to have Dr. Richard Haney, former Professor of History at UWW, speak about his book that chronicles his family’s life during World War II.  Professor Haney’s father fought and died in World War II and his book describes his and his mother’s lives on the home front while his father was away.

Professor Haney taught 20th century United States history at UWW and specialized in World War II.  After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Haney completed post-doctoral courses at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and the U.S. Army War College.  He had a long and distinguished career at the UWW, teaching and publishing many academic articles in books and magazines.  He is a popular speaker on many history topics today.

Haney’s book received many awards for biography and many positive national reviews.  The Historical Society heard from some World War II vets in November, so you won’t want to miss this talk about the home front and how one family coped with their closest member in the service.
