Local resident and writer Tom Stanley has just released a new book, “Mythmaker: Biography of a Big Coach in Small-Town Wisconsin,” coauthored by Tim McGuire. Using wartime letters, yearbooks, small-town newspapers, school records, interviews with family and his athletes, community members, sports reports, photos, census documents and local archives stretching across a dozen little communities, one of his star athletes and his own son set out to find the many behind the myth they remember. This biography brings readers straight into the world of a small-town coach coming into his own during the Great Depression and building a family during the Second World War.

Staff members at the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, along with other libraries in Wisconsin and across the country, assisted with the extensive research Stanley undertook throughout the many years it took to complete this project. The book is now available for checkout at the library, or available to purchase on Amazon in hard cover, paperback, and Kindle editions.
