J-Hawks to Host Social Distancing 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run on July 12

Join us in Whitewater on July 12th, at 8am, for a “Social Distancing” 5K Run/Walk and 10K run. This route takes you through the UW-Whitewater campus and benefits the J-Hawk Aquatic Club. Two runners will start every minute.

We have a VIRTUAL option, as well. We want you to feel comfortable racing, so we’re excited to see people out racing in person and we’re happy to have others that want to support us, while racing from home.

The J-Hawks provide youth swim lessons and a youth competitive swim team. Their mission is to offer FREE or reduced programming to those who receive FREE or reduced school lunches. No child is ever turned away due to financial difficulties. We strongly believe that ALL CHILDREN should be able to swim, as drowning is one of the leading causes of death in young children. And, we love the fact that swimming is a lifelong sport that also promotes a healthy lifestyle. There are 90 year olds still swimming, for both fitness reasons and for the competition. You don’t see that with many other sports.

BONUS SURPRISE!
We are very excited to announce that all participants will be entered to win a FREE entry to the Discover Whitewater Run on Sunday, September 20th. You will have your choice of either a 5K or 1/2 marathon if you are the lucky winner.

Each participant will receive the following:
1. T-shirt
2. Goody Bag

Awards will be given to overall male and female runners, as well as age group awards. We will have 2 sets of awards, one for IN PERSON racers and one for our VIRTUAL racers.

AN EXTRA NOTE ABOUT IN PERSON RACING
This past Sunday, we helped organize an IN PERSON, socially distanced race. We will be using the same course that was used on Sunday. All volunteers wore masks and anyone touching anything (race bags or bottled water) wore gloves, as well. The athletes started every minute and were organized so that they were socially distanced. The registration tables had markers to keep athletes 6 feet apart. We will be doing the exact same thing. Both Rita and Cheri were part of last Sunday’s race organization and handled how this race would take place.

Here is a quote from racer, Ben Mueller about that race, “This course is awesome. Like none you’ve ever seen. A true challenge. And they do a phenomenal job running this race. Showing races all across the state and country that it is possible to race live during this time. I dare anyone to think they can conquer hills to sign up.”

Another participant who took part in the virtual run had this to say: “You did a great job with the logistics of the virtual race! I really appreciate the virtual race as an option to support the cause and go running right now! I have been running a lot of these races, and your instructions and communication were by far the best!”

Please help share our event with your running friends and family.  Let them know that we do have 2 race options of IN PERSON and VIRTUAL.
