Doris Mae Peters, 94, Whitewater, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Fairhaven Senior Living, Whitewater, WI.

Doris was born on December 3, 1923, in the Town of Cold Spring to Charles and Meta (Else) Shuman.  She graduated from Whitewater College High School in 1941.  Doris moved to Washington DC to support the war effort and it was there that she met her future husband Stephen Peters.  They were married on May 16, 1943.  Doris and Stephen had 6 children that were born in 6 different states due to Stephen’s service in the Navy.  Doris was civic minded and volunteered at the voting polls. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church in Whitewater.  She enjoyed her flowers, bird watching, and playing cards.

She is survived by her children Stephen (Dianne) Peters, Janesville, James (Marianne) Peters, Whitewater, Richard Peters, Fort Atkinson, Patricia Peters, Waukesha, Charles Peters, Whitewater; daughter-in-law, Cecilia Peters, Albany, OR; brothers, Neil Shuman, Escondido, CA, Robert Shuman, San Juan Capistrano, CA, David (Lorraine) Shuman, Richmond, MI; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen; son, Louis Peters; sister, Louise Shaw; brother, Charles Shuman.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018, at 11:00 am at Nitardy Funeral Home, 550 N. Newcomb St. Whitewater, WI 53190.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
