#Flashback Friday with the Historical Society: Bicentennial Wagon Train Visit to Whitewater in 1976

It’s time for #FlashbackFriday with the Whitewater Historical Society.

It’s getting close to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, signed July 4, 1776. The last time the country had a milestone celebration was in 1976 for the Bicentennial. In that year, five wagon trains transversed the country as part of the national celebration. One of the wagon trains took the “Great Lakes Route,” Minneapolis to Valley Forge Pennsylvania, traveling from April to July, 1976. This is the one that came through Whitewater on April 30, 1976. This view shows the wagon train stopped in front of the Center of the Arts while parading down Main Street. For those who were alive in 1976, can you believe it has been 50 years?

Join us next week for more from the Whitewater Historical Society.
