IMMIGRATION: A Personal and Story-Based Presentation

The Immigration Hispanic Task Force and Whitewater Unites Lives are excited to offer a story-based presentation about immigration and how it is perceived differently by many.

The 30-minute story filled presentation will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018, at 7 pm at the Starin Park Community Building in Whitewater.

Speaker and Emeritus Professor of Social Work, Jim Winship, teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and will share his personal experiences with immigration within his family and those he met along the way. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, Fulbright Professor in El Salvador and Columbia, and the author of Coming of Age in El Salvador, Jim has knowledge and experience that comes to life in his stories. Also having conducted research on youth and migration in El Salvador, Jim understands the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that correspond to the topic of
immigration.

Families are encouraged and welcome to listen to Jim’s experiences and to the stories of those who seek to immigrate to the United States or are currently living in Wisconsin. With his time in El Salvador, Jim will share the perspectives of families both abroad and local, while reflecting on the comparisons between recent immigrants and his own family’s
immigration story.

This presentation is open to the public and discussion after is encouraged and desired.
