Although dog pet pictures were the largest number of the over 80 entries in a Whitewater Area Top Pet Photo Contest, the top two pets voted most appealing were a cat named Snix (who reportedly retrieves sticks just like a dog) and a cockatiel named Chuchos. The top 12 pets generating the most votes also included a mini horse.
52 of the 82 pets entered into the competition were dogs, but there were also 22 cats, a bunny, a hamster, two mini horses and two birds. Seven dogs are among the top 12 pets that will be prominently featured on one of the months of a 2027 full color full-sized calendar
The contest raised funds for the Whitewater Kiwanis Club’s efforts to improve the lives of children here and around the world. A special focus this year for the non-profit community service organization is a project to replace porta potties with actual restrooms at an eastside soccer complex that regularly draws over 100 kids and family members from over the entire area.
Lead sponsors of the fundraiser were Edgerton Hospital’s Urgent Care Center on Whitewater’s eastside and First Citizens State Bank in Whitewater, Palmyra and East Troy.
The competition generated contributions from friends and family of the 82 pet owners who each paid $5 to enter their pet into the competition. The 2027 Area Top Pet Calendars are expected to be available for sale in December from either the Whitewater Kiwanis Facebook page, directly from Whitewater Kiwanis members or from several area youth groups.
Over $1000 worth of additional prizes that entrants competed for included contributions from over a dozen area businesses. They included HSI Rentals, Willow Brook Golf Course, The Whitewater Aquatic & Fitness Center, Whitewater Walmart, Whitewater Animal Medical Center, Brain Freeze Malt Shop, The Vinery Stained Glass Studio, Pet Supplies Plus, Floral Villa, The Fuzzy Pig, Duesterbeck’s, Badger Bob’s and Dunkin.
The fundraising effort was also supported by local business donations or advertising on the calendar that included The Coburn Company, Affordable Towing, Jessica’s Family Restaurant, Willow Brook Golf Course, Floral Villa, The Fuzzy Pig, Brain Freeze Malt Shop, Attorney Joe Kromholz, Ketterhagen Motor Sales, Home Lumber in Whitewater and Delavan, WSLD 104.5, Generac, and Whitewater Animal Medical Center.
“Congratulations to the 12 Top Pets and their owners, and a big thanks to all our sponsors, competitors, and those who contributed to our cause by voting for their favorite pets,” stated Corey Davis, Whitewater Kiwanis Club President.
