WHS Wrestlers Participate in Competitive RVC Conference Duals

Jimmy DuVal (5-0) about to pin Brandon Heisz of Edgerton for Jimmy’s WHS win number 100.

Tyler Sheffield (5-0)

Coach John Schimming: “When the dust settled the Whippets finished the day 2-3, proving how tough the tournament is as the team has been doing well in duals to this point. Overall Whitewater is 7-3 on the season in dual meets. The team secured some nice victories against Jefferson and Beloit Turner. These were interesting duals as all three of these teams had diversity with guys sick or injured so it made things exciting in both duals as essentially they were up in the air until there were two matches left.

Individually the Whippets had some great performances. Jimmy DuVal and Tyler Sheffield were 5-0 on the day with some dominating wins along the way. DuVal achieved the 100 win club with a pin in his second match of the day! Aldo Soto had a good day going 4-1 with his sole loss by 2 points. Aldo wrestled well in his wins closing out some close matches. Also wrestling very well was Tommy Cushman going 3-2 with a key pin in the dual meet against Turner to help extend the lead for the Whippets. Brother David Cushman, who follows Tommy in the line-up finished the day strong winning his last two matches, going 2-2 on the day. David is a freshman and both of his wins clinched the dual meet for the team. Against Jefferson he pinned his opponent giving the Whippets a 7 point lead with one match to go to secure the win going into the last match. Against Turner he had a key win that extended the lead to give the Whippets a more comfortable lead.

The Team is next in action on Thursday evening when they travel to Clinton to participate in a RVC Dual meet. Saturday the varsity travels to the Monroe Invitational, where wrestling begins at 9:30 and the 5 JV qualifiers to Wausau wrestling in the challenge series final.”
