From Coach McCrea:

On Thursday, May 10, Whippet Girls’ Soccer traveled to East Troy for a Rock Valley Conference match and defeated the host Trojans 4-2. The 3-2-2 overall, 3-2-0 RVC Whippets came off an impressive 7-3 victory over Palmyra-Eagle on Monday, had two very good practice days and played a solid first half, dominating possession the first half that unfortunately yielded only one goal by Sierra Brunner, assisted by Brianna Zimdars at the 44-minute mark.

Ball possession in the second half was even between the teams and East Troy scored at the 50-minute mark to even the match. The two teams battled until Jaden Henneman scored in the 69th minute. Three minutes later Sierra Brunner scored again, assisted by Crystal Chan to take a 3-1 lead. East Troy scored again in the 79th, trailing 3-2 however Whitewater responded with Henneman’s second goal, assisted by Brunner. The goals by Brunner and Henneman came because of their presence of mind to be in an opportune spot. Both Alexa DuClos and Cora Linos played well in goal, supported by strong defensive play led by Abby Center. Midfield play by Meikayla Korf, Kacie Carollo, and Carmen Kraayvanger allowed the Whippets to move the ball forward to attack.

Passing, player position, and communication were three elements of the game emphasized during this week’s practice and the players executed these concepts well in the second half.

Up next, Whitewater, now 4-2-0 in conference travels on Tuesday, May 15, to Clinton (0-4-0 in RVC). Game time is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
