WHS Boys Soccer finishes season after overtime regional

From Coach Chenoweth:

The Whitewater High School Boys Soccer team took the two hour trip to Platteville / Lancaster to play in the first round of regionals. Whitewater went in as the 12th seed in our sectional, with Platteville/Lancaster being the 5th seed. Based on our records against common opponents we knew it would be a competitive game with a chance for the Whippets to pull off the upset.

We came out playing quality soccer and Juan Cuellar put the Whippets up with a goal in the 24th minute for the only score of the first half. The Hillmen built some momentum with a goal in the 4th minute of the second half and had some strong support from their local fans. But, the Whippets were able to hold the home team back and the evenly matched game ended regulation time with a 1-1 tie.

We then headed to overtime. Unfortunately, the Hillmen struck early in the half and then built on that momentum with the same player finding the net twice more in the next 6 minutes. While it’s never fun to lose, the Whippets put up a solid game in regulation. Hopefully, the results will be motivating for our returning players next year to come into the season prepared to compete from day one and to have some high goals.

We appreciate all of the support from our parents and supporters throughout the season. And, we wish our senior players well as they finish up their last year of high school and move on to other opportunities.

Whitewater 1, Platteville/Lancaster 4 (OT)
Whitewater 1 0 (0 0)
Platteville/Lancaster 0 1 (3 0)
