Billie Jo Parker, a native of Whitewater, WI, and graduate of Whitewater High School, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team, which clinched its third consecutive conference title October 4-6 by winning the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg, Wis.
The Warhawks carded a WIAC Championship and UW-W program record 933 (314-314-305) for the tournament to best runner-up UW-Stout by eight strokes. It is the team’s fifth team championship in program history.
UW-Whitewater also claimed the WIAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which is slated for May 12-15, 2020, at the PGA National Resort – Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. It will be the team’s third straight appearance in the national tournament.
Saturday’s second round was suspended due to inclement weather and concluded on Sunday morning. The third and final round of the tournament was played Sunday afternoon.
UW-Whitewater’s three-peat is the first in school history and the third in conference history.
Catherine Yang, a native of Whitewater, WI, and graduate of Whitewater High School, is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team, which came back from two sets down on the road Wednesday night to clinch the program’s league-leading 17th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 17-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-8 triumph at UW-Oshkosh.
The Warhawks, who extended their active win streak to 15 matches, also earn the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 5.
UW-Whitewater, currently ranked seventh in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, closes out the regular season this week with a pair of matches. The team hosts UW-Stevens Point Friday, 11/1 at 7 p.m. before heading to Carthage College in Kenosha to take on Aurora (Ill.).
Yang, a freshman at UW-Whitewater, is an undeclared major.
