Whippet swimmers set 4 school records

From Coach Gina Foucault:

It was the kind of meet that gets your heart pumping and doesn’t let you back down to normal until you go to sleep at night. The Whippets started the day off with a record-setting, state qualifying swim in the 200 Medley Relay. Swimmers Sophia Fanshaw, Ella Houwers, Brianna Zimdars, and Morgan Radaj combined to finish with a time of 1:52.92 beating their best time from just a week ago by almost 3 full seconds.

Next up were Ellie Treder and Lexi Hackney in the 200 Freestyle. Elle took charge of her heat, winning by 9 seconds and dropped 10 seconds off her best time. Lexi also posted a best time by 5 seconds while also going her best 50 and 100 times on the way!

The girls did not disappoint in the 200 Individual Medleys as Amber Krebs was able to post a best time and finish in the Top 16 scoring points for our team score. Ella Houwers secured her spot by winning the event with her lifetime best time and new school record winning time of 2:10.59.

It was exciting to see the girls keep the momentum going as we entered into the 50 Freestyle competition. Maddie Elworthy stepped up to the block first and posted her lifetime best time 28.85 while teammate Lizbeth Rodriguez did the same with her 28.80. In this group of seniors, Morgan Radaj was the last to swim and posted a 25.49 which placed her 3rd all-time on the Top 10 Times list and 4th overall at the meet. We will definitely miss these 3 next year!

Lexi Hackney continued to impress with her 2-second drop in the 100 Butterfly. Sophia Fanshaw stepped up and swam almost 2 seconds in her 100 Butterfly also finishing with a 1:04.15 putting her 4th all-time on the Top 10 Times list and 1st in her heat.

Morgan Radaj was up pretty quickly again in the 100 Freestyle and again posted a best time with a 57.69 putting her 7th all-time on the Top 10 times list.

Our 500 swimmers battled it out with a pretty strong field of swimmers. Ellie Treder entered the race with confidence after her 200 swim and bettered her lifetime best time by 3 seconds. Amber Krebs had a strong race finishing right on her previous time and Brianna Zimdars was able to post her lifetime best time 5:25.00 putting her 6th overall in the Top 10 times list and earning a trip to the State meet for the second year in a row.

The energy level of Whippets continued to stay high and the 200 Freestyle Relay with swimmers Morgan Radaj, Brianna Zimdars, Amber Krebs and Ella Houwers did not disappoint posting another school record performance time of 1:42.65 securing their spot at the State meet.

Maddie Elworthy finished her career as a Whippet with another best time in the 100 Backstroke posting a 1:14.91. Brianna Zimdars and Sophia Fanshaw raced hard in the 100 Backstroke and were able to score points for the team with their 6th and 7th place finishes.

Lizbeth Rodriguez went her 2nd best time of the day with her 1:23.96 in the 100 Breaststroke. We will definitely miss Lizbeth next year. Ella Houwers came to the block with confidence and race to another school record time of 1:05.88, winning the event and securing her second entry into the State meet.

The meet concluded with the 400 Freestyle relay team of Amber Krebs, Maddie Elworthy, Lizbeth Rodriguez and Sophia Fanshaw posting a best time by almost 5 seconds winning their heat and scoring points for the Whippets.

It was such a fun meet and atmosphere for the girls to swim at. The girls posted 15 out of 18 best times in individual events, 3 out of 3 best times in relays, broke 4 school records and have 5 girls headed to the State meet this coming Friday. IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A WHIPPET!
