Whippet Football Battles Delavan-Darien, Falls 38-14

Whippet Football fell to Delavan-Darien 38-14 Friday night, September 12, in a game played at Whitewater High School.

Comments from Coach Bartlett:

We started the game off very strong but were unable to maintain that pace for four quarters. On the very first defensive play, junior Emmett Spear forced a fumble that senior Trevor Piper recovered, giving us immediate momentum. Our offense capitalized quickly, as quarterback Ty Bucholtz connected with Spear for a 27-yard touchdown strike to put us on the board first. Delavan responded with a long, methodical drive of their own, setting the tone for a hard-fought first half between both teams.

From there, Delavan did a great job of capitalizing on our key mistakes. They were able to create several explosive plays of over 30 yards. When you lose the explosive play battle, your chances of winning decrease dramatically, and that was the case tonight. Many of those big plays came from missed tackles — opportunities we must finish if we want to come out on top.

The outcome was not due to a lack of effort. Our team battled and played with heart all night long. The Whippets showed toughness, resilience, and fight, even when things didn’t go our way. Still, we know that mistakes and missed tackles are costly at this level, and correcting those areas will be our focus moving forward.

What encourages me most is the way our athletes continue to pour themselves into this program. The effort they put in on the practice field every day, and the way they compete under the lights on Friday night, gives me confidence that we will keep improving down the stretch. We are committed to growth, to correcting mistakes, and to becoming a better football team each week.

As we’ve said all season, our focus remains the same: to Pound the Stone each and every day, knowing that with persistence and effort, we will break through.
