Brown Jr. Breaks Scoring Record as Men’s Hoops Downs UW-Platteville

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s basketball team picked up its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road win behind a school record-setting performance Wednesday night in an 88-80 victory at UW-Platteville.

Senior forward Melvin Brown Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) broke the program’s single-game scoring record, totaling 47 points on 18-of-26 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range, and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. He added 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Scotty Tyler previously held the record on a 45-point performance against Ripon on Dec. 21, 2016, at Kachel Gymnasium.

UW-Whitewater continues WIAC play Saturday by hosting UW-La Crosse on Alumni Day at Kachel Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Earns WIAC Home Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team posted its third straight win Wednesday night, defeating UW-Platteville 71-55 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (11-7 overall, 4-3 WIAC) held the Pioneers (8-10, 2-5) to 36 percent shooting, including a 2-for-15 mark in the third quarter when they finished with a 24-12 scoring advantage to break the game open.

UW-Whitewater returns to the floor Saturday at No. 22 UW-La Crosse. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
