UW-Whitewater Football to Host Bethel in NCAA Quarterfinal

The No. 4/5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team will continue to play in the NCAA Division III Playoffs this Saturday, Dec. 1, at 12 p.m. against No. 11/15 Bethel (Minn.) in a quarterfinal contest at Perkins Stadium.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased online at tickets.uww.edu starting Monday at 12 p.m. or at the ticket window near the front entrance of the stadium starting at 10 a.m.

The Warhawks (12-0 overall), ranked No. 4 by the American Football Coaches Association and No. 5 by D3football.com, reached the third round with a 54-21 triumph over St. Norbert last Saturday at Perkins Stadium. The team defeated Eureka (Ill.) 67-14 in the first round on Nov. 17 at home.

UW-Whitewater reached the postseason after winning its 36th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and claiming the league’s automatic bid.

Bethel (11-1) is an at-large qualifier from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is making its fourth appearance in the tournament’s final eight in the last 12 years.

The Royals’ path to the quarterfinals includes wins over Wartburg (Iowa) and No. 9/9 North Central (Ill.). Bethel preserved a late lead against the Cardinals on the road last Saturday for a 27-24 victory.

Saturday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The winner of Saturday’s game will take on the winner of No. 5/3 St. John’s (Minn.) at consensus No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) in a semifinal on Saturday, Dec. 8. Time and location will be announced Dec. 7.
