UW-Whitewater Advances to NCAA Super Regional in Thrilling Fashion

The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round for the first time since 2014 Monday with a 3-2 triumph over Coe (Iowa) in the championship game of the NCAA Whitewater Regional at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

With one out and one on in the top of the seventh and the Warhawks clinging to a 3-1 lead, the Kohawks’ Marisa Repp drove a pitch deep to center field. Leaping at the wall, senior centerfielder Caitlin Catino reached over and made the catch in the webbing of her glove to maintain the UW-Whitewater lead.

After Coe (28-14) plated a run after a walk and a base hit, junior Julia Camardo induced a fly ball to Catino in center for the final out of the game, sending the team to the Super Regional round.

The Warhawks (28-11-1) will visit Illinois Wesleyan Friday at 2 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-three series. The winner of the three-game set will head to the NCAA Championship round in Oklahoma City, Okla.
