Bohmann pitched the first five innings giving up 4 runs and departing with Whitewater down 4 to 2. Ashlynne Bohmann pitched the last inning, giving up 3 runs. The Whippets plated 1 more run in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Big Foot scored 7 runs in the third to take a 10 to 7 lead. Whitewater scored 2 in the bottom of the third to make the score 10 to 9. The game went back and forth with Big Foot leading 15 to 12 after six innings. Whitewater held Big Foot in check in the top of the seventh but was still down by three. Shyan Lesperance led off with a single and Cheyenne Bohmann was hit by a pitch. Lauren Buehler came in to run for Bohmann. With one out, Lexi Juoni doubled to leftfield to score Lesperance. With two outs, Nataly Benes lofted a flyball to right field which was dropped, allowing Buehler and Juoni to score to tie the game at 15. In extra innings, Big Foot scored two runs in the top of the 8th to take a 17 to 15 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Jenna Pope got things going with a single to right. Ashlynne Bohmann followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Makaylyn Benes came in to run for Bohmann. Three wild pitches by Big Foot’s pitcher allowed Pope and Benes to score, tying the game. Cheyenne Bohmann then got a base hit with one out. Lauren Buehler pinch ran and promptly stole second base. Cali Kopecky grounded out to short and Buehler scored all the way from second, catching Big Foot by surprise. The Whippets won a thriller 18 to 17. Cheyenne Bohmann was the winning pitcher in relief. Shyan Lesperance had the hot bat as she went 5 for 6 with 3 singles, a triple, and an inside the park homerun. She also scored 4 runs and drove in 3. Jenna Pope was 4 for 4 with three singles and a double. She also scored 2 runs and drove in 1.

The Whitewater Whippet Football Team would like to thank Owner/Chef Benny Spahijoski and his staff of La Piazza Pizzeria and Fanatico’s Italian Restaurant for their amazing support of the football team this year. After the varsity game against Monroe on Friday, April 16th, Chef Benny hosted the entire team of players, coaches, and managers for a meal of free pizza and drinks! Feeding an entire football team after a tough game is no small feat, but the team had a great time and really enjoyed the hospitality displayed by Benny and his staff.
After their team banquet this last Sunday night, a group of players went down to Fanatico’s and presented Benny with a signed game ball and picture collage as a thank you for his generous donation. On behalf of the Whippet Football Program, thank you once again for being a positive and supportive member of the community and our team!

With the win, the Warhawks (37-5 overall) secure the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which begins with the regional round next week. UW-Whitewater will host a six-team, double-elimination regional tournament starting Thursday at Miller Stadium.
The NCAA will announce the 48-team national tournament field on Sunday night on NCAA.com.
Trailing 9-6 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, first baseman/pitcher Donovan Brandl singled through the left side with two outs, and was brought home by left fielder Matt Korman, who doubled the opposite way to trim the deficit to two runs. After a pinch-hit, run-scoring hit to center by Ben Wilkins, catcher Ryan Norton extended the inning further with another hit to put two on with two outs.
On a 1-0 count, centerfielder Zach Campbell hit a double to deep right center field to plate Wilkins and Norton and give the Warhawks (37-5 overall) the lead for good.
Ben Muscatello got the first two outs in the top of the eighth, and Brandl came on for the final out, inducing a fielder’s choice ground ball to end the frame.
Korman provided insurance in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out, three-run homer out to left center field to account for the final margin.
Brandl stayed in the game on the mound and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save of the year.
Kade Lancour pitched a scoreless seventh inning and earned the win, improving to 2-1 on the season.
UW-W took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on consecutive two-out, run-scoring hits by right fielder Jacob DeMeyer and Brandl.
The Pointers (32-11) took the lead on a three-run homer in the top of the fourth, but the Warhawks responded with three in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Campbell and a pair of wild pitches.
The two teams traded runs in the fifth inning and, with UW-Whitewater leading 6-4, UW-Stevens Point plated five runs in the top of the sixth to take a three-run advantage.
Korman tallied four of UW-W’s 17 hits and collected three runs scored and four RBIs. Campbell posted two hits and three RBIs, and shortstop Nick Santoro finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Brandl collected three hits, one run scored and one RBI, and DeMeyer registered one hit, two walks, three runs scored and one RBI.
