JV Wrestlers compete at Elkhorn Invite

Article by Juan Gomez

Saturday the Whitewater JV wrestling team traveled to Elkhorn. The Elkhorn Invitational was made up of 18 tough teams. Most of the teams there were from division one schools. Whitewater traveled with 12 wrestlers to the tournament.

Diego Tovar started the day off with pinning his first opponent. For the rest of the team, it was a slower start but bounced back strong. Having the first round under their belts, the team really turned it around winning most of their matches in the second round. Many of Whitewater wrestlers were wrestling for a medal the third and fourth round. The Whitewater team was very motivated after the lunch break coming out and wrestling really well. In the final round of wrestling, we had Diego Tovar starting the round with his last pin of the day taking first place at the tournament pinning his way through the day. As a team the whippets had five wrestlers take second place, Brianna Staebler, Dylan DuClos, Denver Isbell, Angel Fores, and Josh Hacht.

The Whitewater JV team finished in fourth place out of 18 teams. Overall it was a really good day for the Whitewater JV team. As a team, they keep showing improvements on the wrestling mat, which is exactly what the coaches are looking for as the season progresses.
