#FlashbackFriday with the Historical Society: 50 Years at the Depot

It’s time once again for #FlashbackFriday with the Whitewater Historical Society. In honor of the opening of the historical society’s local history museum in July, 1974, we are celebrating “50 Years at the Depot.” This photo is a view of the Whitewater Depot around the time it was converted to a museum. Note the chain link fence and gravel driveway. The City of Whitewater takes care of the area surrounding the building and there is very nice landscaping and facilities around the depot today.

In 1974, the City of Whitewater and the Whitewater Historical Society agreed to the society having a 99-year lease on the building. That lease is in effect today and the city and the historical society share the costs of building maintenance. We are halfway through the lease and so far it has worked out well!

Join us on Saturday when we are open for the car show (2-6 p.m.) happening next to the depot building and join us next week for more from the Whitewater Historical Society.
