Whitewater High School Students Zach Brantmeier, Cassie Hoxie, and Wesley Salverson, spoke to the Kiwanis Whitewater Breakfast Club on Tuesday about their robotics group, Ferradermis, and received a $500 contribution from the club. Representing 46 high school students, the youth shared information about the robot that they created and competed with in Milwaukee and LaCrosse. The group goes to Detroit for the World Championship next Tuesday.

The Ferradermis team is currently fundraising for its trip to Detroit for the FIRST Championships from April 24 through April 29. If you would like to help support the team financially, the school district has established a PayPal donation system for the team which can be accessed at ferradermis.org. If you have electrical, mechanical, CAD, or programming experience and are interested in helping mentor the team next season, please contact Laura Masbruch at lmasbruch@wwusd.org.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 19. The reception and exhibit are free of charge and open to everyone.

Thanks to a generous gift from UWW alumnus Michael J. Cesario ’71, the university’s collection of Leon Pescheret prints and graphic works have been newly rematted and framed. This inaugural exhibit is set to coincide with the Sesquicentennial Celebration and will feature a selection from the over 170 works that were conserved.

Mr. Pescheret (March 15, 1892 – February 23, 1971) spent much of his working career living in Whitewater. His research into printmaking techniques took him to Europe and our collection includes images of historic architecture in England and France as well as the United States. Scenes of Whitewater are well represented, as are landscapes, seascapes, and images from the Southwest where he moved after closing up his studio in Whitewater.

A Message From the Whitewater Arts Alliance:

As much as we were looking forward to the volunteers’ reception on Wed., April 18, Old Man Winter is causing us to postpone a week. There is a winter storm advisory, and we don’t want anyone driving to the CAC in those conditions.

So since we want you all to be able to attend, we are postponing for one week. The reception to say thanks to our volunteers will now be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 pm at the CAC. Hopefully, spring will arrive by then!

“On Thursday, April 12 the Whippets hosted Rock Valley Conference rival Jefferson and defeated the visiting Eagles 3-1. Jefferson scored their lone goal in the 23rd minute of play. The Whippets responded with a goal by Junior Sierra Brunner in the 41st minute to tie the game going into halftime. Junior Meikayla Korf scored in the 49th minute, assisted by Kacie Carollo, putting the Whippets up 2-1. Brunner found the goal one more time in the 54th minute to put the Whippets up for good 3-1 over the visiting Eagles. Whitewater is 2-0-0 in the Rock Valley Conference and 2-0-1 overall. JV defeated the Eagles.

The Whippets were scheduled for three games over April 13-14 at the Antioch Invitational, but weather conditions prompted the tournament to be canceled. A non-conference game on Tuesday, April 17 at Watertown has been postponed.”

Officer Valadez from the Whitewater Police Department will be at the library to teach you how to respond in an active shooting event, how to recognize signs of potential violence around you, and what to expect after an active shooting takes place.

This program is free and open to everyone.
