The Annual GWC Meeting on Feb. 10 to host speakers from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Editor’s Note: The following information was provided by Knight Public Affairs.

The Greater Whitewater Committee (GWC) will be hosting its annual meeting to celebrate its accomplishments from 2021 and discuss its goals for 2022. This year’s program will feature a presentation from Assistant Deputy Secretary Joel Nilsestuen and the Division of Transport Investment Management Administrator Joe Nestler from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

This event will take place on Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at 6 p.m. at 841 Brewhouse and the whole community is cordially invited.

One of the GWC’s initiatives is to widen Highway 12 to four lanes, and this event will provide an excellent opportunity to hear more information about the process moving forward. The GWC is very excited to be hosting these speakers, and for the chance to interact with members of the community as it plans for another year of success.

The meeting is open to the public and acts as a formal networking opportunity for members of the Greater Whitewater Committee and local organizations. There will be a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. where guests have the opportunity to connect with members of the community prior to the presentation.

“Interacting with the Whitewater community at the annual GWC meeting is something I look forward to every year,” said GWC President Jeff Knight. “We are so thrilled to hear more about the Highway 12 project and celebrate our recent accomplishments.”

While an RSVP is not required to attend, we encourage anyone planning to come to contact us at research@knightpublicaffairs.com

For further details, please contact Jeffery Knight at 920.728.0662 or jpk@knightpublicaffairs.com

The GWC is an action-oriented group committed to working with citizens, elected officials, and policy makers to identify, craft, and implement a pro-business agenda. The agenda advances the economic, education, and social policies required to energize and secure the Whitewater area’s economic future, as well as protect Whitewater’s quality of life.

Beds for ‘Lil Buds Supports 45 Families

Editor’s Note: The following information was provided by Whitewater Grocery Co.

Ron Binning presented the check to Juan of Leon Furniture in downtown Whitewater.

Whitewater Grocery Co. recently raised over $8000 in our Beds for ‘Lil Buds fundraiser over the holidays and into the new year. This far exceeded our original goal of $6000. We partnered with Leon Furniture in downtown Whitewater. Whitewater Grocery Co. purchased the beds, and Juan, owner of Leon Furniture, generously donated all of the metal frames for them. He and his team delivered most of the beds before Christmas and the balance before the New Year. We were able to donate over 30 beds.

With the additional monetary funds, we purchased pillows, sheets, and blankets to make the beds complete for the children and families that arrived in Whitewater over the summer. A special shout out to Kay Robers of the Community Space for putting us in touch with Sandra Ramirez, ELL teacher at Washington Elementary School. Sandra was instrumental in connecting Whitewater Grocery Co. with the ‘Lil Buds in our community. She worked with Juan and the Leon Furniture crew to get the beds to the families. Sandra also delivered all of the pillows, sheets, and blankets. This amazing community effort supported approximately 45 families.

Several community members donated gently used sheets and blankets. We also received a baby crib that went to a family with a 7-month-old newborn.

Special thanks to the students and teachers from Lincoln Elementary School and Lakeview Elementary School for their contributions to the fundraiser.

Whitewater Grocery Co. was thrilled to work with community members and local businesses and looks forward to future collaborations and fundraisers in the future.

St John’s Lodge Donates to Whitewater and Palmyra Food Pantries

Editor’s Note: This information was provided by Terry Boydston.

St. Johns Lodge #57 Whitewater-Palmyra had its annual “Stick it to Bruce” canned goods drive in December. Begun several years ago by Br. Bruce Eshelman, the food drive challenges members of St. Johns to donate funds to purchase canned goods for the food pantries in Whitewater and Palmyra. Bruce matches the donations until he reaches a point of “crying uncle.” This year the lodge members raised a total of $2100. Due to supply chain issues, it was decided to donate money to the pantries.
