Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as the Wisconsin recipient of the prestigious $5,000 grant from Miranda Lambert’s Mutts Across America initiative. Each year, country music superstar and animal advocate Miranda Lambert surprises one deserving shelter in each state with a generous grant, and this year, Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue has had the honor of being chosen for Wisconsin.

Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue has long been dedicated to rescuing and rehoming senior dogs and special needs dogs, providing them with a second chance at a loving and happy life. Miranda Lambert’s Mutts Across America program was established to support shelters across the United States that are making a meaningful impact in their communities. By awarding these grants, Miranda Lambert and her MuttNation Foundation aim to highlight the important work being done by shelters like Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue and to inspire others to support local animal rescues.

The grant comes at a crucial time, as Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue continues to see an increasing number of dogs in need of their services. With this additional funding, the rescue will be able to expand their outreach and save even more lives.

UW-W Beta Alpha Psi Chapter Achieves Gold Status for 2023-2024

Chapter members and Accounting Department faculty on December 7, 2023

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s College of Business and Economics Epsilon Rho chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting student organization, is pleased to announce that they have been awarded Gold status for the year of July 2023-June 2024. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Beta Alpha Psi’s commitment to excellence in education and the UW-Whitewater community.

In acknowledgment of this achievement, our Beta Alpha Psi chapter, Epsilon Rho, will receive a congratulatory letter and a $500 sponsorship from the KPMG Foundation in the upcoming fall season. This recognition highlights UW-Whitewater’s Beta Alpha Psi’s outstanding performance in meeting the high standards set forth by Beta Alpha Psi International.

Beta Alpha Psi’s achievement of Gold status reflects members’ dedication to growing professional development and community engagement within our university and their future careers. To receive a Gold status for Beta Alpha Psi, chapters are expected to fulfill key reporting requirements and participate in valuable training sessions. The chapter must also participate in activities for outreach, the accounting profession, and service.

“Student organizations provide opportunities beyond the classroom allowing students to connect with professionals, peers, and professors. Our accounting student org activities complement classroom learning to allow students a deeper understanding of the accounting profession, potential career paths, and current events,” Dr. Jodi Gissel, Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisor, shared. “Students are able to enhance professional, social, and leadership skills; develop stronger connections and expand networks; and add value to the community through volunteer activities.”

Chapter member Alyssa Schuyler with local VFW Post Commanders on November 11, 2023. Alyssa presented cards that our Chapter made for local veterans, thanking them for their service

Throughout the past year, Epsilon Rho of Beta Alpha Psi has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service, participating in events such as Explore Accounting Day, Women in Business, Junior Achievement, helping in the Campus Garden for Make a Difference Day, and making over 140 cards that were shared with local veterans at a Veterans Day Ceremony. On top of that, they hosted numerous events throughout the year to engage students with professionals and enhance skill development including a mock interview event, multiple professional panels, and Accounting Jeopardy Night. These efforts underscore the dedication to making a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Accounting is one of the most popular majors at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is offered at the undergraduate level and as an accounting emphasis in our MBA program. Applied- and high-impact learning, stellar student organizations and the fact that all courses are taught by professional faculty are key reasons for this success as are the facts that the department boasts strong alumni connections and a close relationship with area employers. The accounting program at the College of Business and Economics has also received Accounting Accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Achieving AACSB accreditation is a mission-driven, rigorous process that includes an in-depth assessment of internal activities. These principles-based standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation, research, teaching and learning. This level of specialized accreditation places the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the top 2% of business schools worldwide.

“Beta Alpha Psi has long been the flagship student organization within the department and is the main driver of student engagement through professional events and volunteer activities.” Dr. Abbie Daly, the chair of accounting, shared. “Dr. Gissel and the Beta Alpha Psi board members expended an immense amount of effort to achieve this accomplishment, helping us accomplish our department’s vision ‘to be the first choice in the state of Wisconsin for accounting students’.”

Obituary: Christine Marie “Chris” Gasperetti, 58

Christine Marie “Chris” Gasperetti, 58, of Whitewater passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at Fort Memorial Hospital.

Chris was born on June 9, 1966 in Milwaukee to Joseph and Elaine (Sadowski) Socha. She was raised in Whitewater in her childhood home on Whitewater Lake. Chris graduated from Whitewater High School in 1984. Chris met her husband, Tim, while working at Wenninger in Milwaukee in 1988, and the two later married on September 30, 1989. Tim and Chris were married for exactly 34 years and ten months, and together they raised their daughter, Anna.

They were fortunate to have enjoyed a loving, faithful, and happy marriage. A huge void is now in the hearts of her family, and she will be sorrowfully missed. She loved entertaining at the lake and making people happy with all of her many wonderful dishes she expertly prepared. Chris loved Wisconsin sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, and she attended several games per year. She traveled extensively including many cruises and land excursions through Europe. Her fondest memory was the 2022 Mediterranean cruise of Italy, Sicily, Greece, and Turkey with Tim, Anna, and Greg. Those who knew Chris would describe her as caring, loving, dedicated, and most of all brave, as was evident fighting this awful disease the last six and a half months. She never once complained and was always the nurses’ favorite patient.

Chris is survived by her devoted husband, Tim; loving daughter, Anna (Greg) Albert; many family members and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elaine Socha.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at 12 P.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Whitewater. Visitation will take place from 10 A.M. until the time of service. A graveside service will take place at Skoponong Cemetery immediately following mass.

The family would like to give special thanks to UW-Health Carbone Cancer Center, particularly Dr. Malinda West and Dr. Peyton Reves, for their kind and compassionate care. Also, special thanks to the exceptional comfort care provided by Fort Memorial Hospital staff.

Gifts in Chris’ memory may be made payable to the ‘UW Foundation’ with a note to direct as a tribute to the “UW Carbone Cancer Center Greatest Need Fund # 112909110.”

Donations can be mailed to UW Foundation, US Bank Lockbox Box 78807 Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807. Gifts can also be made online at give.wiscmedicine.org/cancer
