The Whippet Boys and Girls Track and Field Family did not let spring break stop them from competing this past weekend at the Schreiber Invitational at New Berlin West High School.
The Whippets competed in a multitude of events. The boys’ 4x800m got things started with a second place finish. The team of Denver Isbell, Cooper Hammond, Will Hoffmann, and Daniel Trost toured the indoor facility in 10:22.29. Next up was Jonathan Chan finishing 5th in the 55m High Hurdles running 10.45. The duo of Omar Jaime and Jose Espana led the way in the 55 M Dash finishing 7th and 11th respectively. Jaime later went on to clear 7 feet in the pole vault, narrowly missing 8 feet in his first ever competition in that event! In the boys 4x240m Relay the team of Carter Friend, Conner Moreno, Cody Rupke, and Thomas Utynek finished 3rd in 2:20.97 adding 6 more points to the Whippet total. In 400m competition Denver Isbell led the way for the whippets finishing 3rd in 1:03.98. He was followed by Jovanny Manriquez in 4th with a time of 1:04.5. Not to be out done twin brother Jonathan Manriquez finished in 7th running 1:07.84. Next up was the boys 4x160m Relay running 1:31.42. The team of Jonathan Chan, Shawn Chan, Omar Jaime, and Jose Espana finished 3rd overall continuing to add to the Whippet total. In the 200 Carter Friend led the way with a 7th place finish followed by Cody Rupke in 8th, and Thomas Utynek in 11th. Josef Gmur’s 2nd place finish (5’ 6”) in the high jump was followed by Ben Stoll in 5th with a leap of 5’4”. Hayden West was 6th in the vault at 8’ and Omar Jaime finished 7th. Arturo Franco led a 5,6,7 finish for the Whippet Boys in the shot put with a toss of 39’10”. Jake Martin followed with an all time best of 37’6”, and Justin Mitchell rounded things out with a heave of 36’3”. The Whippet 4x400m Relay rounded out the day finishing 4th. The team of Cooper Hammond, Denver Isbell, James Servin, and Jonathan Manriquez ran 4:33.36 to cap things off and help the Whippet Boys to a 5th place team finish.
In girls’ competition, Abby Grosinske’s 35’9” toss put her at the top of the leader board in the Shot Put. Nicole Pelot finished 8th in the 55m Dash running 8.9 and 6th in the 200 M Dash with a 33.36. Jenna Lee’s 6th place finish in the 800 (3:05.46) was followed by Gwen Truesdale in 7th with a time of 3:07.13.
All in all the young Whippets gave it their best with both teams finishing 5th.
Track and field will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd when the Whippets host McFarland and East Troy at Whitewater High School.
