On August 14, the Whitewater Lions, along with 27-A1 District Governor Sharon Eberhardt, had the honor of presenting the Melvin Jones Fellowship award to Lion Julian Stinson.  Melvin Jones was the founder of the Lions and the award bearing his name is the most prestigious award any Lion could hope to receive.

Julian joined the Lions Club in 1990 in New Jersey, later joining the Whitewater Lions in 2002.  He has served as Whitewater’s Lion President three times over the years.  During that time, he advocated for inviting women to join the Whitewater Lions Club and the club now has several women members.  He has been very active in fundraising and researching how to make our events more efficient.  It was Julian that came up with the famous steak sandwich that is served at the 4th of July Festival in Whitewater and the Antique Flea Market in Elkhorn.

Julian has visited the Mandeville, Jamaica Lions Club and worked on a school painting project with the Whitewater Lions’ sister club in Jamaica, bringing several UW-Whitewater students with him.  He and the students brought much-needed school supplies for the children in the area.

Julian has been one of the Whitewater Lions’ most active members, attending meetings and fundraising events as well as serving as Lion President for all those years.  The Whitewater Lions Club congratulates Julian on this incredible honor and thanks him for his many years of service and dedication.
