The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling 8/26/2021 declared that the CDC’s extension of the eviction moratorium to Oct. 3 (in counties with high or substantial rates of COVID) is unlawful. This ruling allows eviction proceedings to resume 8/27/2021.

For landlords, this will allow evictions for non-payment of rent to begin again. However, there are alternatives to eviction that can be mutually beneficial for both tenants and landlords. Click here for a UW-Madison Extension fact sheet, “Eviction Alternatives for Landlords.”

For renters, the federal eviction moratorium has ended on August 27 and any renters who are behind on payments could be in danger of losing their homes.
