A post on The Whitewater Banner on September 7 provided a link to a WMTV report on the Whitewater Police Department’s ongoing investigation into internet crimes against children. As was indicated in the article, a local resident has been charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Child Sexual Exploitation, and ongoing investigation into these crimes has identified “at least 4,000 victims, and suspects around the globe.”
In response to questions posed by The Banner, Police Chief Dan Meyer provided the following information about the ongoing investigation.
- “No local victims have been identified in the material.
- No other local suspects have been charged at this point.
- Detectives are working the case as time permits – it falls to the back burner as new or more pressing cases are received.
- Detectives have been communicating directly with a number of outside agencies both to identify victims and suspects.”
