The key to this win was teamwork, offensively and defensively. Their communication on defense was outstanding.  We had 8 players contribute on offense.  Abby Grosinske lead the team with 18 followed by Kacie Carollo with 7, Jocelin Beecroft with 6, Jaden Henneman with 5.

No. 21 UW-Whitewater Women Earn Big Road Win

The No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team outscored 12th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan by 17 points in the second and third quarters combined Tuesday night in a 78-73 triumph in a non-conference affair in Bloomington, Ill.

The Warhawks (3-1 overall) shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) in the third quarter to take a four-point lead into the fourth quarter, when the team scored the last seven points of the contest to emerge with a critical road win.

Junior guard Becky Raeder collected a career-high 21 points on 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line to lead UW-Whitewater, which made 15-of-16 foul shots, including 5-of-5 over the final 1:04 of regulation.

Senior forward Sarah Schumacher posted 16 points in 17 minutes of action, and senior forward Olivia Freckmann registered 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Emily Schumacher added nine points, and junior guard Camri Conley chipped in eight points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Warhawks return to action Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Augustana. Tipoff in Rock Island, Ill., is set for 5 p.m.


Efficient First Half Sends No. 24 UW-Whitewater to Road Win

The No. 24 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s basketball team remained undefeated for the 2018-19 season Tuesday night with its second road victory of the season, an 83-55 triumph at Monmouth in a non-conference affair in Monmouth, Ill.

The Warhawks (4-0 overall) shot 62.1 percent in the first half, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range, to take a 48-26 lead into halftime. The team finished the game 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from 3-point range and 51.8 percent from the field.

UW-Whitewater held the Scots (2-1) to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor, including 3-of-17 from 3-point range.

Senior guard Mitchell Pfeifer hit five 3-pointers on his way to a 19-point, four rebound performance. He also led the team with two steals.

Senior guard Andre Brown collected 16 points, including 14 in the first half, and two assists, and senior guard Malik Celments totaled 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Dalton Menke hit three 3-pointers for nine points, and senior guard David Sachs dished out a team-best five assists.

WHS Students recognized for performing with Honors ensemble

Two WHS students were recognized at the November WUSD School Board meeting for performing with the Wisconsin School Music Association’s State Honors Ensembles. Clarinetist Caroline Crowley played in the Honors Band. Henry Bresser sang as a tenor in the Honors Mixed Choir. Both students performed in October at the Overture Center in Madison with their respective groups.

Rev. John Arthur Klindt, age 91, of Whitewater, WI passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Fairhaven in Whitewater, WI.

John was born in Cassville, Wisconsin on May 29, 1927, the son of John and Ruth (Finney) Klindt. On June 2, 1956, John married Shirley Anne Eaton in Milton, MA.

He served in the United States Navy as an office clerk in San Francisco. When WWII ended in 1945 he felt he had been “delivered” and received the “call” to the ministry.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Wisconsin Madison and a Masters of Religious Education at Andover Newton Seminary in Massachusetts. He served as an American Baptist then as a United Church of Christ pastor until his retirement.

A few brief words here will not do justice to his life and ministry, but let it be known he was a stalwart advocate of equality, separation of church and state, religious freedom and social justice for all.

He is survived by his: devoted wife of 62 years, Shirley Klindt of Whitewater, WI; children John Jr. of Lake Villa Il., Paul of Lake Villa Il., Lauralee (George) Haefner of Rochester, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Erma Klindt of Alhambra California; sister-in-law, Virginia Eaton (Wright) and brother-in-law, Joe Wright; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Doris Klindt (Moore) and brother-in-law Robert Moore.

A private memorial service will be held at Fairhaven Nov. 29.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fairhaven Senior Services and the Hospice team for their continuing care.

Kyle Whyte holds the Timnick Chair in the Humanities at Michigan State University. He is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Community Sustainability. His primary research in Indigenous philosophy addresses moral and political issues concerning climate policy and Indigenous peoples and the ethics of cooperative relationships between Indigenous peoples and climate science organizations. This research covers Indigenous philosophies of sustainability and resilience and connects with theoretical literatures on decolonization and Indigenous resurgence. He is an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Professor Whyte is involved in a number of projects and organizations that advance Indigenous research methodologies and Indigenous sustainability, including the Climate and Traditional Knowledges Workgroup, Sustainable Development Institute of the College of Menominee Nation, Tribal Climate Camp, and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga New Zealand’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence. He has served as an author on the U.S. National Climate Assessment and is former member of the U.S. Federal Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science.

The event is free and open to the public.

Gary Klatt, 78, of Whitewater passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.

Gary was born in Milwaukee, WI on Nov. 22, 1939, to Howard and Dorothy Klatt.  On June 6, 1964, Gary married Pat Leistikow in Madison, WI and they had 2 children, Dan and Cathy.

Gary earned a Bachelor’s degree from Case Institute of Technology, a Masters and Ph.D. in Letters and Science from UW Madison.  He taught math at Marquette University and he was a professor of mathematics at UW Whitewater from 1967 until he retired, also serving as the Chairman of the Math Dept. for 3 years.

During his tenure at UWW, he was the faculty advisor to the Hobbits Outdoor Club, enjoying many years of traveling the country canoeing, hiking, biking, camping, and spelunking.  Gary was very active in the Walworth/Jefferson County chapter of the Ice Age Trail and the Mobile Skills Crew building bridges and boardwalks, constructing and maintaining the trails, and fundraising.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Ice Age Trail Alliance and was the recipient of the Spirit Stick Award.

Gary is survived by his wife Pat, two children Dan Klatt and Cathy (Pat) Boersma, Sister-in-Law Mary Klatt, Niece Laura (Andy) Fine, and Brother-in-Law Mike (Shirley) Leistikow.

He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Dorothy and brother Dennis .

An informal celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Sunday Dec. 2, 2018 from 1:00-4:00pm at 841 Brew House, 841 Milwaukee St, Whitewater, WI where appetizers will be served.
