From Coach Chenoweth:
The Whitewater High School Boys Soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 5th place finish in the conference. With all of the rain we have had this season, both games this week were played on a swampy field.
On Monday, the Whippets played Edgerton at home. We were pleased to finally put together a complete game on offense and defense playing with high energy. The Whippets put in 3 goals in the first half and added 2 more in the second while keeping a clean sheet. Our starting 11 and our full set of subs played our best game of the season. It was the type of soccer we are going to need to play to make a run in the state tournament.
Thursday night we hosted Big Foot / Williams Bay. Again we played with good energy but just couldn’t seem to connect a high percentage of passes in the first half. Neither team was able to score in the half and we used the break to refocus on playing cleanly and committing to quality passes. The second half was much better for the Whippets with more opportunities for shots at the goal. We never did find the back of the net, but we played strong defense across the pitch and kept the opponent off the scoreboard as well to end in a 0-0 tie. A big thanks to our fans who braved the cold and windy weather to support the team!
Those games wrap up the regular season and now we wait until Sunday to see who we will play in the first round of the tournament this coming week.
