April 28, 2018 – Oconomowoc 5 WHS 2
On Saturday, April 28, the Whippets (6-1) would lose their first game of the season to Division 1 and #7 ranked Oconomowoc by a score of 5-2. Oconomowoc jumped out early by scoring one in the first inning and three more in the 3rdinning. The Whippets would get 1 back in the 4th as Bryce Parrish walked with one out and Jordan Curtis doubled to score Parrish and make the score 4-1, however, Oconomowoc would get one back in the bottom of the 4th to make it 5-1. In the 6th inning, Bryce Parrish would homer to left center to make it 5-2 but that is all they could muster. Jordan Curtis led the hitting 2×3 with a double and an RBI, Bryce Parrish was 1-2 with a home run. Whitewater split the pitching between Hunter Martin, James Dedrick, Bryce Parrish and Jordan Curtis. Hunter Martin took the loss giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run while striking out 3 and walking 1. Coach Pease was disappointed in the loss as the pitchers executed a number of pitches and struck out 10 batters but the defense was not on top of its game while committing 2 errors in the infield, the tricky swirling winds caused the outfielders a few problems. Coach Pease said, “That is something we will need to clean up if we want to reach some of our goals”. The Whitewater batters had an up and down day as they had 6 hits and had several line drives and hard hit balls but had 12 strikeouts. Pease said “this was the first time we had seen a little more velocity this year, we had to make some adjustments as the game went on, but if we clean up our defense we are right there. Good experience to play Oconomowoc and we need to learn from it”.
April 30, 2018 – WHS 14 Edgerton 3
The bats came alive on a warm spring evening in Edgerton as Whitewater Whippet baseball team (7-1) beat Edgerton 14-3 to remain in first place in the Rock Valley Conference. James Dedrick started the game out with a bang with a home run over the centerfield fence to give the Whippets a 1-0 lead. Dylan Pease would walk, Bryce Parrish would hit into a fielders choice then steal 2nd. Jimmy Duval would walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jordan Curtis would groundout for an RBI to score Parrish and a 2-0 lead. Edgerton would come right back in the bottom of the first scoring 3 runs but the Whitewater pitchers would settle in after that. In the top of 3rd, Bryce Parrish would double to center and Jordan Curtis would knock him with a double tying the score at 3-3. Cooper Pease would keep the inning going with another single followed by a double by Danny Harnack scoring both runners and a 5-3 lead. Whitewater would add another run in the top of the 4th after a leadoff single by Dylan Pease, he would steal 2nd and Jordan Curtis knocked him with another double to make it 6-3. In the 5th inning Whitewater would strike for 8 runs after the leadoff batter popped up Chris Dedrick singled, Jaden Salmeiri singled, James Dedrick was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Dylan Pease would single scoring 2 runs. Bryce Parrish would hit a hard line drive single to left scoring two more runs. Jimmy Duval followed up with another hard single, Jordan Curtis walked, Parrish scored on a wild pitch, and Cooper Pease doubled to left center to score 2 more and make it 13-3. Sam Wilson would enter the game as a courtesy runner and scored on a wild pitch to make the final score of 14-3. Whitewater would bang out 15 hits led by a number of players – James Dedrick 2×3 with a home run and 1 RBI, Dylan Pease 2×3 2 RBI’s, Bryce Parrish 2×4, double and 2 RBI’s, Jordan Curtis, 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s, Cooper Pease 2×4, double and 2 RBI’s, Jaden Salmeiri 2×3, and Danny Harnack with a double.
James Dedrick improved to 2-0 on the season as he went 3.1 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while strikeout 5 and 2 walks. Bryce Parrish would finish the game going 1.2 innings allowing no hits, no runs while striking out 3 and 1 walk. Coach Pease was excited to see a lot of players put good swings on the ball and finally find some green space as the hits became contagious and kept coming in the 5th inning to seal the win.
May 1, 2018 – Big Foot 9 WHS 3
A night after the Whitewater Whippets baseball team (7-2) banged out 15 hits against Edgerton the bats fell silent against Big Foot in losing the first conference game of the year 9-3. Although they still managed 7 hits, they could not get the big hit as they left 7 on base and had a number of great scoring opportunities. James Dedrick led off the game with a double and was left stranded at 3rd to end the top of the first inning, which, unfortunately, was a sign of things to come. In the bottom half of the inning Big Foot took advantage of 4 walks, an error, a bunt single, and a line drive single to take a 4-0 lead. Whitewater would answer in the top of the 2nd as Jordan Curtis led off with a walk and stole second, Chris Dedrick would line a single to center scoring Curtis and advanced to 2nd on the throw. Jaden Salmieri would follow with another single scoring Dedrick to make it 4-2. In the 3rd inning, Whitewater missed a golden opportunity after loading the bases with no outs the next two hitters swung at the first pitch and ground out into fielders choices at home, followed by getting picked off at 1st with a 3-0 count on the batter. Big Foot would add another run in the 3rd to make it 5-2. In the 5thinning Whitewater would get one back after leadoff double by James Dedrick, Bryce Parrish would reach on an error by the shortstop and Jimmy Duval would single home Dedrick to make it 5-3 but both runners were left stranded. Big Foot answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th to maintain a 3 run advantage at 6-3. In the top of the 6th Whitewater had a chance again after both Dedrick brothers were hit by a pitch but were left stranded. Big Foot would tack on 3 more in the bottom of the frame for a 9-3 final score. James Dedrick led the hitting 2×3 with 2 doubles and Jimmy Duval was 2×4. Hunter Martin took the loss giving up 4 runs, 3 earned on 2 hits and 3 walks. Dylan Pease came in relief going 5.2 innings giving up 8 hits, 5 runs while striking out 4 and walking 4. Chris Dedrick finished out the game facing 1 batter, walking 1, then picking the runner off first to end the 6th.
The loss drops Whitewater into a tie for first place in the Rock Valley conference with 5 teams within 1 game of each other. All of the teams will be facing off over the next two weeks and will become very challenging to manage pitching with many teams playing 3-4 conference games per week. Coach Pease was very disappointed in the loss. Pease said “We need to come out ready to play and throw strikes, we missed the opportunity to grab the lead early, then walk 4 in that first inning, we still had a chance to get out of it but our defense was unable to make a play. If we can hold them there and limit the damage it changes things. Then in the 3rd inning to not get any runs with bases loaded really hurt. We needed better approaches at the plate and need to be smart on the base paths inthose situations”.

May 4, 2018 – WHS 11 Evansville 1
May 5, 2018 – WHS 4 Evansville 1
The Whitewater High School Baseball Team swept the season series with Evansville with an 11-1 and 4-1 victories on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night the Whitewater bats came out hot as James Dedrick was hit by a pitch to lead off the game followed by a Bryce Parrish 2 run home run to center to make it 2-0. On the next pitch, Jimmy Duval it a solo home run to go back to back and make it 3-0. The Whippets would add to the lead in the 2nd inning as Alex Fero tripled in Chris Dedrick and Dylan Pease added an RBI single to make it 5-0. In the 4th inning, the Whippets would strike again as Chris Dedrick singled and James Dedrick would reach on an error by the SS. Bryce Parrish would hit his second home run of the game, this time a 3 run shot to right center to make the score 8-0. Evansville would get 1 back in the 6th inning but Whitewater answered in the 7th. Chris Dedrick was hit by a pitch and Alex Fero would double scoring Dedrick. James Dedrick would single putting runners on the corners, the Evansville pitcher attempted a pickoff throw that went wide scoring Fero and Dedrick would reach 3rd. Gehrig Monday hit an RBI groundout to make it the final score of 11-1. Whitewater banged out 12 hits as Bryce Parrish went 3×5 with 2 home runs and 5 BRI’s, Alex Fero was 2×3 with a double, triple, and 2 RBI’s. Dylan Pease was 2×4 with an RBI and Jimmy Duval had a solo home run. James Dedrick picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 7 innings allowing 7 hits, 1 run, struck out 8 and walking 1.
Game 2 saw Evansville strike first in the top of the 2nd with an unearned run to make it 1-0. In the 3rd inning, the Whippets would respond as Dylan Pease walked with 1 out and Bryce Parrish doubled to score Pease and tie the game at 1-1. Jimmy Duval would follow with an infield hit and Jordan Curtis would reach on an error by the shortstop scoring Parrish. Cooper Pease would single on a line drive to left scoring Duval to make it 3-1. Danny Harnack would hit a deep fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly that would score Curtis and make it 4-1. The big inning was all they would need as Bryce Parrish picked up the win on the mound throwing 7 innings, allowing 1 run, 3 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2. Whitewater had 8 hits for the game with Cooper Pease going 3×3 with 1 RBI and Bryce Parrish going 2×3 with a double and 1 RBI. Coach Pease was excited to get the season sweep over Evansville. After a tough loss early in the week the team came back with intensity and was ready to play. Coach Pease said anytime you can win a home and home series against a quality opponent and a team that was picked as one of the preseason favorites in the conference is big for the team and our confidence, now we need to show the consistency the rest of the way and play one pitch at a time.
Next up for the Whippets is Clinton at home on Monday with 1st pitch at 4:45.
