Whitewater to Become an Official Ice Age Trail Community

Whitewater Tourism Council invites the community to an afternoon of activities celebrating the official designation of the city of Whitewater as an Ice Age Trail Community. With 26 miles of the more than 1,000-mile Ice Age Trail located in the Walworth and Jefferson County, this alliance will be mutually beneficial to both those who use the trail and our whole community.

The focus of the event will be a ribbon cutting on Sunday, May 6, at 3 pm at the new city kiosk located at Cravath Lakefront Park (341 S. Fremont Street). The Kiosk will hold trail maps and activities, as well as city and community information. Cameron Clapper (City Manager), Kathleen Fleming (Whitewater Tourism Council President), Andy Whitney (Ice Age Trail Alliance, Chapter Coordinator), and Amy Lord (Outreach and Education Coordinator, The Ice Age Trail Alliance) will participate in the ceremony.

Free children’s nature-related activities will be provided by the Whitewater Park and Rec Department and U.W. Whitewater education students. A family-friendly guided hike will take place at 4 pm, leaving from the Highway 12 Ice Age Trail parking lot, located between County Highways P and O. A state parks parking sticker is required for parking; some shuttle service may be provided.

Additional hikes of varying distances will also take place on the Ice Age Trail between 1 and 2:30 pm offered by UWW Education students and members of the Walworth/Jefferson County chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance. If interested meet at the Ice Age Trail tent at Cravath Lakefront.
