The No. 2 UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team was defeated by UW-Stevens Point, 75-69, in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference matchup Wednesday night.

With 8:24 remaining in the game, Sachs finished a layup and gave the Warhawks the lead 56-55, but UW-Stevens Point answered with a 14-3 run and never trailed despite a pair of late 3-pointers by senior guard Jerry Ngobi (Janesville, WI/Janesville Craig). 

UW-Whitewater continues play Saturday, Jan. 20, in a conference matchup at UW-La Crosse at 5 p.m.

The No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s basketball team outscored UW-Stevens Point 42-14 in the second half Wednesday night on its way to a 67-43 triumph in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown in Stevens Point.

Junior forward Olivia Freckmann (Milwaukee, W/Pius XI) registered a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards, to post her third career double-double.
Senior guard Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater, WI) added 14 points and five assists.
Senior forward Andrea Meinert (West Bend, WI/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 14 points and collected five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

The Warhawks tallied the first 17 points of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Freckmann registered eight points during the run.

UW-Whitewater finished with a 44-14 advantage on points in the paint.

The Warhawks host UW-La Crosse Saturday at 3 p.m. on Alumni Day at Kachel Gymnasium. As part of the celebration, UW-Whitewater will recognize the 10th anniversary of its 2008 Final Four run. Members of the team will be recognized at halftime of the contest.
