In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, we present this Scholl glass plate image from around 1900 only identified as “Mrs. Murphy and Lillian.” It is possible this is a mother and her daughter, but even if it is not, it suggests a mother and her daughter. We hope all mothers have a great day!

Congratulations to WHS student Alexa Wildenberg for becoming a Bronze medalist at the All Star World Championship in Orlando, FL!
We are excited to celebrate Alexa’s incredible achievement in the world of cheerleading! Competing with her team, Golden Girls, they soared through semi-finals on day one scoring the highest of 14 teams within their split division and then clinched an amazing 3rd place overall out of 34 teams on day two!
It was the first time Alexa’s gym, Ultimate Revolution Athletics out of Madison, WI, competed at the end of season event. The team earned a bid to compete in Florida back in December.
Alexa has been doing competitive cheerleading for 8 years. Her dedication and talent shine through as she balances her passion for cheerleading with her academic pursuits.
We are so proud of Alexa and all she’s accomplished!

The FFA has a plethora of plants for sale that have been raised by the hard working Horticulture students here at Whitewater High School. There are annual bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetables, and many more. This sale helps out the FFA a lot so please consider stopping by and buying some plants. Thank you.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will host the first, second and third rounds of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship May 9-11 at UW-Whitewater Outdoor Tennis Complex.
UW-Whitewater (10-9) received an automatic bid into the 49-team field by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament. The Warhawks are making the 16th NCAA appearance in program history and will open first round action against Carleton College (Minn.) (17-0) on May 9. The winner will face Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) (14-6) in the second round on May 10.
Hope College (Mich.) (19-5), Ohio Northern University (18-5) and University of Chicago (Ill.) (18-1) will also participate in the six-team regional.

The Warhawks are making the 15th NCAA appearance in program history and will face the winner of Grinnell College (Iowa) (24-3) and Ohio Northern University (19-5) in the second round on May 11.
Denison University (Ohio) (19-4), Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) (22-7) and Kalamazoo College (Mich.) (9-10) will also participate in the six-team regional.

Congratulations to Discover Whitewater, Associated Bank Whitewater, and First English Lutheran Church for being recognized with the Purple Angel Designation by the Whitewater Dementia Friendly Community Initiative. This designation shows that fifty percent of the staff has been through a dementia friendly business/church training learning about dementia and how to best serve those with the disease. There was also a walk-through of the facility with recommendations to assist those with dementia. Others in Whitewater with this designation are Binning and Dickens Insurance, First Citizens Bank, Reynold’s Heating and Cooling, Studio 84, Irvin L Young Memorial Library, Seniors in the Park, First United Methodist Church and New Beginnings APFV.

| Gov. Tony Evers announced today that he is seeking applicants for the Jefferson County Circuit Court – Branch 2. The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by Judge William F. Hue’s resignation, effective Aug. 10, 2024. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2025. Obituaries
Sally A. Schutte, age 73, of Whitewater, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 21, 2026, while at Hearthstone Memory Care in Whitewater. Sally was born on November 6, 1952, to Roy and Elsie (Rohloff) Haas. Sally married William Schutte in the spring of 2003. Sally grew up on the family farm in the Town of Hebron and graduated from Jefferson High School. She dedicated nearly her entire career to Fort HealthCare, where her hard work and versatility shone through various roles. Zachariah “Zach” Schoenke, 41, of Whitewater passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. He was born April 4, 1985, to Keith W. Schoenke and Kathleen Schoenke in Fort Atkinson, WI. He grew up and graduated from Whitewater High School in 2003. Zach worked various jobs over the years but was currently working at Cracker Barrel in Janesville. He was a big Packers Fan and liked to play fantasy football. He enjoyed reading, cooking, and watching horror shows. Our loving mother, JoAnn E Harrop, age 95, passed away on September 11, 2026. Our sorrow is deep, but we are filled with gratitude for the many years we had with her. Russell O. Johnson “Russ,” 88, passed away on September 4, 2026 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Russell was born on July 12, 1938, in Janesville, Wisconsin. Russ grew up in Janesville, and after high school he joined the Air Force on May 1, 1958, serving as an aircraft mechanic until June 12, 1962. He then worked at Parker Pen in Janesville for a time, where he met his future wife, Avis. Marcia Zingg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, businesswoman, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, at the age of 75. Marcia will be remembered for her unwavering love, remarkable strength, generous spirit, and lifelong devotion to her family. Amanda Jean Hunter was born to Ralph and Malinda (Thomas) Hunter of Whitewater, Wisconsin, on October 6, 1976. She passed away on August 4, in Fort Worth, Texas, where she lived with her family. Amanda passed peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. Amanda was a kind-hearted free spirit with an unmistakable hippie warmth. Generosity, spontaneity, a quick wit, a macabre sense of humor, and an open heart were traits that she embraced. Ellen Eichmiller, 82, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Ellen was born on September 10, 1943, in Monroe, Wisconsin, to Chester “Guy” and Irene (née Holmen) Steig. She married the love of her life, Paul Eichmiller, on December 7, 1963, and together they made their home in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Ellen spent much of her working life as a secretary at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where she formed many lasting friendships and memories. Janet Quinn, age 71, of Jefferson passed away on Thursday, August 20th. Janet was born on December 22nd, 1954 in St. Joseph, MI to Robert Mounsey and Edith Christison Mounsey. She was a granddaughter to Herbert Bragg Mounsey, Charlotte Mounsey, and Ester Christison West. She married Michael Durden in 1979 and later married Eury Quinn Jr. (J.R.) in 1988. Janet grew up in Benton Harbor, MI, and subsequently lived in New York and Arkansas before moving to Wisconsin in 2016.
