The Whitewater Whippets kicked off Homecoming Week with an exciting 3-2 victory over visiting Evansville on Tuesday, September 28. The Whippets started the first set off by hitting an impressive .389 as a team. Two players, junior Kindyl Kilar and senior Savannah Hill, hit .500. Six different Whippets had one service ace each, to help propel Whitewater to an impressive 25-13 win. In set two, the Whippets continued their success behind the service line by having four aces and hitting .200 as a team, winning 25-17.
In the third and fourth sets, the offensive firepower for the Whippets dropped to .143 and .030, while only having one service ace in each set. The Whippets lost the third and fourth sets by the scores of 23-25 and 19-25.
Whitewater lost the coin toss in the deciding game, thus finding themselves receiving serve to start play. The Whippets immediately sided out with a kill and Cali Kopecky took charge at the service line, ringing off the next two points to put the home team up 3-0 and forcing Evansville to take a timeout. After the timeout, Evansville got on the board by a serving error. After a Blue Devil hitting error, Jenna Pope went back to serve for three more points to put Whitewater up now 6-1. Evansville and Whitewater exchanged the next two points before the Whippets went on another 3-point run. Evansville went on a 4-point run at the end of the fifth set to get within four points but were unable to dig a Kindyl Kilar hit. Whitewater won 15-10.
Whitewater travels to McFarland on Thursday night. McFarland is the 4th ranked D2 team in the state, and the Whippets are looking forward to the highly competitive match. Whitewater is currently 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the Rock Valley.

Treyton Kilar was tragically taken on September 2, 2010 and since then his family, friends, community members and strangers from all over the country have helped to provide support to make Treyton’s Field of Dreams a reality. Our mission is not only to remember a boy whose life was taken far too soon, but also to use his memory to benefit both Walworth and Jefferson County communities as a whole. The original goal to build a youth size major league baseball field has become a reality. Trey’s field provides a wonderful place for the youth of the area to come and enjoy baseball, just as Trey did. We have now built a top-notch concession stand, fund maintenance for the field, and we are funding scholarships, given in Trey’s name, to students in Jefferson and Walworth County. Go to TREYSFIELD.org and sign up for the 5K Fun Run/Walk for Trey today!!

Washington PATT hosts Walk 4 Washington
Each year Washington PATT (Parents and Teachers Together) hosts Walk 4 Washington. Students raise money that goes directly back to their classrooms. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $4000. Top fundraisers from each grade won a special lunch with Principal, Mr. G and also raced with area mascots at the all school assembly. The top fundraiser in the entire school, Carsyn Alexander raised $1700. Carsyn also won a new bike and helmet sponsored by Washington PATT. The entire school won an ice cream party for crushing their fundraising goal.
This year students raised over $9300! Over the past 11 years Washington students have raised over $54,000 for their own classrooms! A special thank you to Whippet Athletics, UW-Whitewater, Jones Market of Fort Atkinson, FCCU and Culver’s of Whitewater for being a part of our mascot race.
The Whippets jumped out to an early lead on a cold, rainy, and windy night against Jefferson on Friday, September 24.
On the Eagles’ first possession, the Whippets made three great stops and then forced a fumble and recovered it on the fourth play of the game. The Whitewater offense marched right down the field and on 3rd and goal, Brock Grosinske found wide receiver Jacob Raglin in the back of the endzone to take the early 6-0 lead.
Unfortunately, Jefferson took over from there, and the Eagles were able to score multiple times in the first half.
The Whippets played much better in the second half not letting Jefferson score again and by also punching in another touchdown on an 11-yard run by senior Connor Sharlow.
The final score ended up being a 42-14 loss for the Whippets.
Join us for our Homecoming game this Friday at 7 p.m. as we take on Edgerton in what should be an exciting matchup!

Based on an absurd but true story and directed by Bruce Cohen, this poignant and sometimes hilarious tale is about a Russian soldier who deserted during World War II and spent ten years hiding in his pigsty. As the play begins, Pavel Ivanovitch is preparing to rejoin the world and throw himself on the mercy of his countrymen… Will Pavel Ivanovitch ever be able to leave the pigsty, or is it his only safe haven?
Director Bruce Cohen states, “‘A Place with the Pigs’ is a parable. The play is, at its base, about the young soldier who inspired Fugard to write it, Pavel Navrotsky. Pavel is real and, although Fugard takes ample liberty with his story, the absurd circumstance of a man hiding away for decades in a pig sty is historically factual. It is, indeed, a more common thing than I’d ever imagined. The historic Pavel hid out of fear. Fear of the Nazis at the front, but also a very, valid terror of Stalin’s retribution should he be discovered by his own people. The play is a commentary on the misanthropy that self-isolation and fear can magnify; a poignant reality over the last year and a half. And lastly, for myself, this is a case-study of toxic codependency and the parallel dynamics between a wife and abusive husband.”
Playing the lead role of Pavel Ivanovitch is Theatre/Dance student, Bryce Giammo. Playing the role of Pavel’s wife, Praskovya Ivanovitch, is Erin McKee. Additional roles have been implemented and are played by Emma Dutcher and Maggie McNulty. “This role is the most difficult role I have ever played. Pavel is such a complex character because his mood can change in a heartbeat” says Giammo. “When I first read the script, I was shocked to find that it was only a two-person play and that I had lines on every page; I have never performed anything like this before. Preparing for this role has been a journey. One thing that’s stood out has not just been having enough time to learn the lines, but to invest in the character himself. Who is Pavel? The first character choices I made involved Pavel as a pretty miserable person. Since then, the character has evolved so audiences will see the raw emotions behind the tough exterior.”
