“Hungry Caterpillar” family event on July 22

An outdoor nature exploration event for children will take place at 2 PM on Sunday, July 22, in the picnic shelter at Natureland County Park, W8338 Territorial Road (at the southwest end of Whitewater Lake).  The telling of Eric Carle’s popular audience-participation story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and Lois Ehlert’s “Waiting for Wings” will be followed by hands-on craft activities.  Finally, we will explore the park to discover and examine butterflies, caterpillars, and other insects — and observe what they are doing.  Bug boxes, magnifying glasses, and butterfly nets welcome!

Children should be prepared to walk in wooded and open prairie areas.  Water bottles, protective shoes, long pants, sunscreen, and insect repellant are recommended.  Parking, a water pump, and restrooms are on site, with an overflow parking area just up the hill.  This family-friendly event is presented by the Walworth/Jefferson County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance.

For additional information, contact Barb Converse at 262-473-7304.

Loving Vincent – Wednesday, July 18 at 12:30 PM, Seniors in the Park

From Wikipedia:

Loving Vincent is a 2017 experimental animated biographical drama film about the life of painter Vincent van Gogh, and in particular, the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film. The film, written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is a Polish production, funded by the Polish Film Institute, and partially through a Kickstarter campaign.

First conceived as a 7-minute short movie in 2008, Loving Vincent was idealized by Dorota Kobiela, a painter herself, after studying the techniques and the artist’s story through his letters.

Each of the film’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, using the same technique as Van Gogh, created by a team of 125 painters. The film premiered at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It won Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards.

The film received positive reviews with critics praising the performances and received three nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Director and Best Actress – Drama for Williams.
