2018 marks the 3 rd year that the Whitewater Community Foundation has awarded grants to nonprofits that serve Whitewater area residents. The Foundation’s mission is to collaborate with our civic partners to create opportunities for youth and adults to achieve their educational and economic dreams, to create a vibrant city for the arts, and to celebrate and preserve the qualities that make Whitewater exceptional.

Grants in 2017/2018 were awarded to programs such as Bethel House, Rock River Free Clinic, Whitewater Dementia Friendly Community Initiative, Wisconsin Makers and others. The Foundation was proud to support the Ferradermis Robotics Team at the High School with a grant that helped enable them to build their robot and travel across the state and country to complete.

An additional grant was awarded which would enable these students to assist in establishing the FIRST Lego Team at Lakeview Elementary School and at Lincoln Elementary School, along with providing inspiration and mentoring to these younger students.

Please spread the word to groups trying to effect positive change in the Whitewater area. We look forward to working with leaders who are striving one goal at a time to make our community a greater place to live, work, and learn.

WHS Cross Country runners have strong showing at Jefferson Invitational

[text-blocks id=”1611″ slug=”bob-mischka”]

From Coach Carstens:

What a great day to be a CC runner! The girls’ race was first and they had to contend with strong rain throughout the race that made for an experience they will not soon forget. The Whippets were determined to not let the rain get in the way of having successful races. Leading the charge was senior Nicole Tomomitsu who placed 6th after a hard-fought sprint to the finish over two pack runners from Palmyra-Eagle. Crystal Chan had a nice performance compared to her race last Saturday to finish in 22:47 and Hailey Prager challenged herself more today by going out with and running along with Crystal which allowed her to finished with a time of 23:16. The girls’ varsity finished in 6th place out of 11 teams competing.

On the boys’ side, the rain was almost finished but the course got very sloppy from the first event which allowed them the opportunity to gain some mental toughness and push through such slippery conditions. Gio Anello returned to the line up in spectacular fashion and secured himself a medal in 12th place. The boys looked strong and competed hard which is what it is ultimately about when conditions are like this. The times aren’t fast, but the experience is awesome! Will Hofmann was the team’s 2nd runner and close behind was newcomer Manny Rodriguez as the team’s 3rd runner. They finished 25th and 28th, respectively. The boys’ varsity and JV teams finished in 6th overall out of 11 teams competing.

Beloit Memorial at Whitewater Girls’ Tennis results

[text-blocks id=”1611″ slug=”bob-mischka”]

From Coach Nelson:

The Whippets finished their 2018 dual meet season with a 6-1 win over Beloit Memorial. Whitewater finished the season at 14-8.

Whitewater changed their line-up around for this final dual, allowing several seniors an opportunity to play some different positions or varsity matches to conclude their high school dual careers. In addition, Beloit was missing one of their third doubles’ players, so the match was played with five singles and two doubles teams.

The Whippets played solid tennis at every position. Cassidy Laue, moved up to 1 singles from her normal 3 singles position and lost a tough three set match. Hailey Murphy moved up from jv for the evening to win a tough two set win at three singles. Hannah Hoesly and Josie Hintz moved up from jv to play the two doubles spot and played a very nice match winning in straight sets. The biggest comeback of the evening came from Marissa Mueller at 4 singles. Not used to playing singles, as she is one of Whitewater’s regular third doubles’ players, required some major adjustments. After the first set, Marissa made those adjustments and took control of the match.

Whitewater will return to action next Monday at UWW as they begin WIAA Sub-sectional play.
