Whippet Boys Prevail Over Johnson Creek 61-56

The Whitewater Whippets rode the hot shooting of Matthew Carollo and a frenetic defense to edge the Johnson Creek Bluejays, 61-56, in a non-conference boys’ basketball game, Saturday, January 3rd.

Carollo made 11 out of 16 three-pointers and finished with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Casey Lyon contributed 10 points and 5 assists, as the Whippets played their first game in two weeks.

The game was close throughout, with neither team able to build a lead, until Johnson Creek scored the last six points to go up at halftime, 33-28. Whitewater was able to fight back and tie the game at 35 after four minutes into the second half. The teams continued to trade the lead back and forth, until an Aaron Garcia layup pushed Whitewater ahead by five points with a minute and a half left. Connor Brummeyer finished off an outstanding defensive effort with a steal with 30 seconds left to help seal the win for the Whippets.

Whitewater will get back into conference play on Friday, January 9th, with an away game at Monroe.
