Geraldine E. “Gerrie” Carney, 90, of Whitewater, WI, formerly of Mauston, WI passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Fairhaven Senior Services, Whitewater.

Geraldine was born on May 13, 1928 in Mauston the daughter of Edward and Geraldine (Noonan) Moriarty.

Geraldine attended St. Therese Hospital, Waukegan, IL where she obtained her Registered Nursing degree graduating in 1949. She was united in marriage to Frederick “Jim” Carney on November 18, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mauston.  They lived in Libertyville, IL and were devoted parents to nine children.  Gerrie’s career as a Registered Nurse spanned 50 years.  In retirement, she volunteered her time as a Hospice nurse.  Gerrie’s life was dedicated to caring and serving others and guided by her strong faith. 

Joys in Gerrie’s life included her eight grandchildren, being active in her church, spending time with her friends, puzzles, gardening, knitting, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gerrie is survived by her children Timothy Carney, Geraldine (Doug) Muller, Loretta (Andy) Minghi, Daniel Carney, Joseph (Laura) Carney, Therese (Alan) Conway, her grandchildren James, Brian and Geraldine Muller, Ryan and Lauren Carney, James, Mary and Rita Conway, her siblings Raymond (Alice) Moriarty, Margaret “Peg” Burke, Josephine (Mark) Powers, Patricia “Pat” Schenk and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Geraldine, her husband Frederick, sons James  and Terrance, her daughter Marian, her brothers Edward “Bud” Moriarty and Leo Moriarty.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., (Noon), Monday, January 28, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mauston where friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
