THE MITTEN TREES ARE “SPROUTING” ALL ACROSS OUR COMMUNITY!

What a great sight to see! There are 7 special “Mitten Trees” that are being decorated with all sorts of mittens, hats, scarves, socks, underwear and even snow pants to make sure none of our school children have to go out without the right gear! The UWW/Community Optimist Club has sponsored this important collection since 1991 as part of their goal to be “Friend of Youth”.

Collection sites in Whitewater include the Irvin L Young Auditorium, the University Center, First English Lutheran Church, Associated Bank, First Citizen’s State Bank, Fort Community Credit Union (FCCU), and Premier Bank. In addition to collecting mittens, hats, and scarves underwear, socks and snow pants (for elementary school kids) are encouraged, for they are used as emergency items for the kids throughout the school year. Gift cards will also be accepted by Lanora Heim, Director of Pupil Services for the Whitewater Unified School District and Coordinator of the Family Emergency fund, to purchase items as needed. Check with your church to see if they are participating.

Donations are being accepted now through Tuesday, December 18th by 4 pm.

There is especially a need for smaller sizes since there are more than 300 children under age 5 in the Whitewater Unified School District.
