Whippet Boys Win Three Last Week

The Whitewater Boys’ Basketball team enjoyed a successful “road trip” last week, winning three games in four days. Casey Lyon averaged 33 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Whippets to these three wins, as we improved our overall record to 9-12 overall.

Casey Lyon is currently in the running for Bound Wisconsin High School Basketball Player of the Week. Vote for Casey at

On Monday, February 9, Whitewater traveled to Clinton and defeated the Cougars 66-60.  The two teams exchanged the lead throughout the game until Matt Carollo made two free throws to put the Whippets ahead for good, 48-47, with 8 1/2 minutes left.  From there, Whitewater made enough key plays to finish off the Cougars.  Casey Lyon led the way with 27 points and 16 rebounds.  Matt Carollo and Aaron Garcia chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively.

Whitewater traveled to Waterloo for a non-conference game on Tuesday, February 10.  The Whippets took control of the game in the second half to beat the home team 61-47.  Whitewater pulled away, using a harassing defense to wear the Pirates down, and held them scoreless for the last seven minutes.  Casey Lyon, again, led the Whippets with 31 points and 12 rebounds.  Matt Carollo contributed 12 points to the win.

Whitewater completed its week on the road by winning at Jefferson on Thursday night, February 12.  Casey Lyon scored 22 of his game high 40 points to stake the Whippets to a 28-25 halftime advantage.  Aaron Garcia scored all 14 of his points in the second half to help Whitewater build and maintain a double-digit lead throughout the second half and defeat the Eagles, 73-63.  Matt Carollo added 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Casey Lyon was certainly the dominant player of the week.  But it took the whole team, making plays on offense and, especially, on defense for the Whippets to get these three wins.  Whitewater will go for four in a row on Friday, February 20th, when we take on Delavan-Darien, at home, in a conference matchup.
