The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team used a strong start Wednesday night to extend its win streak to 13 matches with a 25-10, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20 triumph at Concordia Wisconsin in a non-conference match in Mequon, Wis.
The Warhawks (19-3 overall) did not commit an attack error in the first set and hit .290 for the period. The team sprinted out to an 8-1 advantage and claimed the final five points of the set to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Falcons (15-6) flipped the script on UW-Whitewater in the second set, pushing out to a 14-8 advantage. The two teams played even from there, allowing CUW to tie the match at 1-1.
The Warhawks started the third set much like they did the first, this time by a 10-1 margin. The Falcons got as close as six points, but UW-Whitewater continued to control the frame on its way to a 2-1 match lead.
Concordia Wisconsin led 7-2 in the fourth set before the Warhawks embarked on an 8-1 run to lead 10-8. With the set tied at 13-13, UW-Whitewater scored the next five points to take control before the Falcons closed to within 23-20, forcing a UW-W timeout.
The Warhawks ended the match on back-to-back kills by freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher and senior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield.
Buescher led the offense with her eighth double-double of the season, totaling 14 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. Senior middle hitter Ashton Doll collected 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage and added four blocks, and Butterfield registered nine kills on a .474 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Maggie Streckert posted 26 assists, two kills, two digs and two blocks, while sophomore setter KellyAnn Sotiros contributed 13 assists and four digs. Sophomore outside hitter Emma Aske recorded 11 digs, two kills and three service aces.
Freshman Morgan Jensen finished with 24 digs and four service aces, and sophomore defensive specialist Hailey Mackenthun tallied 17 digs and four service aces.
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday at 7 p.m. at UW-River Falls.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s soccer team recorded its third straight shutout Tuesday afternoon, October 15, with a 1-0 victory over Central (Iowa) in a non-conference affair at Fiskum Field, the final non-league game for UW-W this season.
The Warhawks (8-4-3 overall) extended their active unbeaten streak to eight matches thanks to another stellar performance by the back line and senior goalkeeper Sara Klimisch and a goal by sophomore forward Savannah Curtis in the 39th minute.
Eleven minutes passed from kickoff before freshman forward Olivia May put the first shot on goal. The Dutch (5-7-2) tallied two corner kicks over the next six minutes, but UW-Whitewater held strong in front of net.
The two teams exchanged possessions before Curtis rebounded a shot by sophomore midfielder Madison Mikalauski that hit the post. It was Curtis’ fifth goal of the season and MIkalauski’s first assist.
The Warhawks registered three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Klimisch saved two shots in a four-minute span near the midway point of the period.
Curtis earned another chance in the 82nd minute, but missed her chip wide left. Junior forward Anna Brodjian squared up a shot just outside of the 18-yard box in the final minute, but it was saved by the goalkeeper.
Klimisch (5-3-2) totaled three saves for her third straight shutout and fifth on the season.
UW-Whitewater resumes Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, Oct. 19 at UW-Stevens Point. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
The No. 3 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team piled up 513 yards of total offense and made some crucial defensive stops Saturday in a 21-14 victory over No. 19 UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in front of 12,402 fans on Homecoming at Perkins Stadium.
The Warhawks (5-0 overall, 2-0 WIAC) ran for a season-high 376 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jarrod Ware with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter that gave the team the lead for good.

UW-Whitewater held the previously unbeaten Pioneers (4-1, 1-1) to 237 yards and turned UW-Platteville over on downs twice in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead.
Junior quarterback Zach Oles, who was named the George Chryst Memorial Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player for the Warhawks, rushed 14 times for 114 yards and passed for 137 yards and one touchdown. Senior running back Ronny Ponick collected 15 carries for 109 yards and one score, and Ware tallied 16 carries for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Senior linebacker Jacob Erbs paced the defense with eight tackles, and senior defensive back Nate Tranel posted eight stops. Freshman defensive lineman Niko Lemke, the Defensive MVP, registered three tackles, including two sacks, and one forced fumble.

UW-Whitewater claimed the Miner’s Axe for the 23rd time in the 25-year history of the George Chryst Memorial Bowl. The rivalry game started in 1995 and was dedicated to Chryst, who passed away suddenly in 1992 after coaching UW-Platteville to a 79-60-2 record and the 1980 league championship.
Donald Allender (7 receptions, 72 yards, TD) and Tyler Reinhardt (14 tackles, 1 TFL) were named Offensive and Defensive MVPs, respectively, for the Pioneers.
The Warhawks were first on the board, taking advantage of good field position off a shanked punt late in the first quarter. Ponick plunged in from two yards out to make it 7-0 with 57 seconds on the clock.
After a UW-Platteville punt that pinned UW-Whitewater at its own 3-yard line, the Warhawks went 97 yards in 11 plays, keyed by a 41-yard pass from Oles to junior wide receiver JT Parish and finished by a 9-yard strike from Oles to senior wide receiver Josh Ringelberg that made it 14-0 with 7:05 left in the second quarter.
The Pioneers scored on their next drive, then tied the game in the third quarter with 4:53 remaining following a 10-play, 90-yard drive.
The two teams exchanged punts before UW-Whitewater took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter on Ware’s 10-yard run with 11:03 to go.
Two more punts were exchanged before the Warhawks stopped UW-Platteville on back-to-back possessions on fourth down. UW-Whitewater ran out the clock in the final two minutes and finished the contest with 13 more minutes of possession.
The Warhawks visit UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
The No. 9 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team finished its weekend with a 3-0 record and extended its win streak to 12 matches Saturday on the second day of the Dig Panici Classic at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks (18-3 overall) downed Illinois Wesleyan 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 in their lone match of the day to give head coach Stacy Boudreau her 500th career win.
Boudreau became the sixth coach in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history to reach the 500-win plateau. Her .765 career winning percentage entering the 2019 season ranked 10th among active NCAA Division III coaches and 15th all time among Division III coaches. Boudreau currently owns a 500-151 career mark, good for a .768 win percentage.
Senior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield and freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher tallied 13 kills apiece, and Buescher added 11 digs and three blocks for her double-double. Senior middle hitter Ashton Doll collected 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage and added seven blocks, and sophomore outside hitter Erin Erb posted eight kills on a .389 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Maggie Streckert totaled 26 assists and two blocks, and sophomore setter KellyAnn Sotiros registered 21 assists, two service aces and seven digs.

The Titans (3-16) led 20-13 in the first set before UW-Whitewater came all the way back to tie the set at 24-24. Illinois Wesleyan claimed the final two points, however, to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Warhawks stormed to an 8-4 advantage in the second set and didn’t look back, recording six of the final eight points to even the match at 1-1.
The two teams went back and forth in the third, but the Titans took a 21-17 lead. After a UW-W timeout, the Warhawks scored six of the next seven points to take a 23-22 advantage. After Illinois Wesleyan tied it, UW-Whitewater closed the set on back-to-back kills by Buescher for a 2-1 lead.
The Warhawks jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the fourth set, and never trailed by fewer than four points the rest of the way.
UW-Whitewater visits Concordia Wisconsin Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference contest in Mequon.
